OBJECTIVE: Discal cyst is rare and causes indistinguishable symptoms from lumbar disc herniation. The clinical manifestations and pathological features of discal cyst have not yet been completely known. Discal cyst has been treated with surgery or with direct intervention such as computed tomography (CT) guided aspiration and steroid injection. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety and efficacy of the percutaneous endoscopic surgery for lumbar discal cyst over at least 6 months follow-up.
METHODS: All 8 cases of discal cyst with radiculopathy were treated by percutaneous endosco

BACKGROUND: This 18-year retrospective analysis of pediatric odontogenic cysts reviewed characteristics, treatment approaches, and associate … of 13.32 ± 3.55. The histopathological diagnosis were dentigerous cysts (n = 58, 60%), followed by radicular cysts (n = 28, 29%) and odontogenic keratocysts (n = 9, 9%), mainly in the posterior mandible. Root canal treatment (RCT) was performed in 18% of the patients, and 72% underwent extraction of at least one permanent tooth. The need for RCT and extraction …

Odontogenic cysts are bony lesions in the jaws that can reach large sizes. OBJECTIVES: We retrospectively evaluated the patients with jaw cysts treated at our center.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: The study included 25 patients (14 males, 11 females; mean age 33+/-19 years; range 7 to 69 years) who underwent surgery for odontogenic or nonodontogenic jaw cysts.
RESULTS: The most common presentation was a swelling in the jaw with or without dental problems. Involvement was in the mandible in 18 patients, and in the maxilla in seven patients. The lesions consisted of eight radicular, six dentigerous, two nasoalveolar, two globulomaxillary cysts, and three keratocysts. Four pa

OBJECTIVE: Odontogenic cysts may be of developmental or inflammatory origin. They are frequently observed in brachycephalic dogs. Due to the … the cysts was observed. Histologic diagnosis consisted of an epidermoid cyst, a follicular cyst, a radicular cyst, and a canine odontogenic parakeratinized cyst (COPC). Neoplastic transformation was excluded in all cases.
CONCLUSIONS: Removal of the cyst wall may be performed by means of minimally invasive endoscopic intervention via the physiologic nasal entr …

INTRODUCTION: Paget's disease of the bone (PDB) is a chronic disorder characterized by abnormal bone remodeling, often involving the spine. Although spinal stenosis and neural compression are well-documented manifestations, facet joint synovial cysts in PDB are extremely rare, and their development remains unclear.
RESEARCH QUESTION: We report the case of a PDB patient who presented with progressive radicular symptoms due to an enlarged L1-L2 cyst with marked facet hypertrophy and stenosis.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: We presented a case of a patient who underwent surgical decompression along wit

INTRODUCTION: The nasopalatine duct cyst (NPDC) is the most frequent nonodontogenic cyst of the jaws and can be misinterpreted as an apical lesion of endodontic origin.
METHODS: In the first case, a 17-year-old male patient was referred because of a pressure sensation in the anterior maxilla. The teeth #7, #8, #10, and #11 responded to cold sensitivity testing, and on tooth #9 an endodontic treatment had been performed 3 years ago. Only periapical radiographs had been taken, and a radicular cyst was suspected. In the second case, a 42-year-old man reported inconvenience wearing his upper remo…

This paper will review the diagnostic imaging work-up of disc-related nerve root impingement including the role and technique of CT and MRI. Clinical and anatomical elements will be reviewed along with considerations regarding the radiology report, including a review of the proper descriptive terminology. Finally, clinical and imaging pitfalls will be discussed. In addition to specific features related to thoracic and lumbar segments, clinical and imaging differential diagnoses are reviewed: non-disc related radicular pain (intradural or extra-spinal), differential diagnosis of "enlarged" nerv

Primary intraosseous squamous cell carcinoma (PIOSCC) is a rare lesion that almost exclusively occurs in the jaws. Most PIOSCCs originate from epithelial lining of odontogenic cysts, especially from radicular, residual, and dentigerous cysts. A few cases have been shown to arise from keratocystic odontogenic tumors (KCOTs). This is a report of a case of PIOSCC that arose from an untreated keratocystic odontogenic tumor within a period of less than 2 years of first diagnosis. Upon malignant transformation, the tumor changed from a cystic to a solid pattern and acquired an infiltrative growth pa

A surgical treatment for central epithelial odontogenic ghost cell tumor is described. A brief review of the literature is given, and histopathology is discussed. The rationale for conservative treatment is presented, along with an illustrative case report.

The DNA content of the epithelial basal cells of oral lesions was determined by Feulgen microspectrophotometry. The DNA histograms of the radicular cysts showed a definite peak in the diploid range and a slight deviation to the right. The keratocysts also showed a well-defined modal peak in the diploid range; however, another cell population defined a peak in the tetraploid range. In leukoplakias of the oral cavity, two different profiles of DNA distribution were found. Where both the clinical and microscopic traits defined a nondysplastic lesion, the histogram showed a diploid peak and a perc…

AIM: The aim of the current investigation it was to evaluate the incidence, clinical symptoms and the results of surgical treatment of lumbar juxta-facet cysts.
METHOD: Between January 2002 and July 2003 305 patients underwent decompression of the lumbar spinal canal. In 3.6 % of these (n = 11) juxta-facet cyst were found to be responsible for the complaints and resection of the cyst was performed. All patients underwent standardized clinical examination and pain evaluation by the means of a visual analogue scale in a follow-up of 6.8 month on average.
RESULTS: The average history of lumbar
