Riboflavin deficiency and food restriction were associated with greater solubility and lesser total and insoluble collagen concentration in rat skin. Studies using 3H-proline suggest that the lower collagen concentration under these conditions could be due to a decrease in synthesis as well as slow maturation of collagen. The mechanisms underlying defective cross-link formation appear to be different in food-restricted and riboflavin-deficient rats. Half-life of soluble collagen was not affected in riboflavin deficiency, but it was slightly shorter in food-restricted weight-matched animals.

Two-kidney, one-clip Goldblatt models were created in Wistar rats by placing a stenotic clip around the left renal artery. A converting enzyme inhibitor, captopril was started just after operation (group 1), 4 weeks (group 2) or 12 weeks after operation (group 3). Trifluoperazine was administered to pregnant mice and rats by gastric intubation during the period of organogenesis. Dams were treated at doses of 0.5, 5, 50 (mice and rats) and 100 (only rats) mg/kg/day. Effects of 4 weeks of treatment with oral cimetidine, 100 mg/kg twice daily, on gastric secretion and plasma gastrin levels were studied in rats. In this study, rat hippocampus was lesioned bilaterally after completion of amygdaloid kindling, to examine how hippocampus affects the kindling permanency. The ventral hippocampal lesions of the kindled rats inhibited reappearance of any kindled seizures. The other rats with the same lesions showed the regression of generalized convulsion. These results suggest that hippocampus, especially ventral parts of hippocampus, would have rather facilitatory or maintaining influence on the kindled neural circuits, relating to the catecholaminergic system in rat forebrain.
