Evaluation of the fracture resistance of reattached incisal fragments using different materials and techniques.

OBJECTIVES: When coronal fracture occurs in anterior teeth, fragment reattachment can be a valid alternative to a direct restoration. The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of the material and the technique used to reattach the fragment. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Eighty sound maxillary and mandibular incisors were selected and randomly divided into eight groups (n = 10). The incisal third of each tooth was removed using a saw machine. The fragments in groups 1-4 were reattached using resin-based materials: group 1 adhesive, group 2 flow, group 3 composite, group 4 cement; in groups

Mechanical properties of open-cell foam synthetic thoracic vertebrae.

This study presents comprehensive morphological and mechanical properties (static, dynamic) of open-cell rigid foams (Pacific Research Laboratories Inc. Vashon, WA) and a synthetic vertebral body derived from each of the foams. Synthetic vertebrae were comprised of a cylindrical open-cell foam core enclosed by a fiberglass resin cortex. The open-cell rigid foam was shown to have similar morphology and porosity as human vertebral cancellous bone, and exhibited a crush or fracture consolidation band typical of open-celled materials and cancellous bone. However, the foam material density was 40%

Comparative Long-Term Clinical Performance of Atraumatic Restorative Treatment Versus Conventional Composite Restorations in Carious Primary Molars: A Prospective Observational Cohort Study.

INTRODUCTION: Dental caries are highly prevalent in children, and restoring carious primary molars presents challenges due to limited cooperation and resource constraints in this age group. Atraumatic restorative treatment (ART) may offer a minimally invasive alternative to conventional restorative techniques; however, long-term comparative evidence in primary dentition remains limited. This study aimed to evaluate and compare the success rates and clinical performance of ART using high-viscosity glass ionomer cement with conventional composite restorations in carious primary molars over 24 mo

The effect of human blood on the sealing ability of root canal sealers: an in vitro study.

The effect of human blood and moisture contamination on the sealing ability of six commonly used root canal sealers was studied. The materials tested--Tubliseal, Diaket, AH26, Nogenol, Roth, and Endomethasone sealers--were placed in root canals with laterally condensed gutta-percha. The specimens were immediately immersed in blood or saline solution or kept dry for 2 hours. All the teeth were then subjected to methylene blue dye for 1 hour. A comparison of the seal was made by observation of dye penetration around the filling materials. Under all conditions, Tubliseal exhibited the least amoun

Does composite repair time affect repair protocol, immediate or delayed?

BACKGROUND: Composite resin restorations frequently require repair due to fractures, marginal defects, or esthetic failures. The effectiveness of composite repair depends heavily on the surface treatment applied prior to bonding. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of various surface treatment protocols on the shear bond strength(SBS) between composite resin layers in same-visit immediate repair(IR) and delayed repair (DR) conditions, using bulk-fill and nanohybrid composite resins. METHODS: Two types of composite resin materials—NeoSpectra ST HV (nanohybrid) and Tetric N-Ceram Bulk-Fill—

Do collagen cross-linkers improve dentin's bonding receptiveness?

OBJECTIVES: Dentin biomodification using collagen cross-linkers has been proposed as one of the strategies to improve bond durability of adhesives to dentin. However, literature is not very consistent regarding their benefit, in particular when cross-linkers are applied in clinically realistic application times. This study investigated the effect of three cross-linkers on the mini-interfacial fracture toughness (mini-iFT) of four adhesives bonded to dentin following either etch&rinse (E&R) or self-etch (SE) modes. METHODS: 60 molars were randomly divided in accordance with the three variables

Changes of pH produced by immersion of endodontic sealers.

When evaluating the antimicrobial effect of endodontic sealers it is important to study the variation of pH, since this is one of the properties that may inhibit the microbial growth and influence biocompatibility. The aim of this study was to evaluate the capacity of several endodontic sealers without calcium hydroxide to modify the pH of the solution in which they were immersed. The sealers used were: Endomethasone C-Septodont (EC), Bio Seal-Ogna (BS), Diaket-Espe (D), Procosol-StarDental (P), AH26-Dentsply (AH), Ketac Endo-Espe (KE), AHPlus-Dentsply (AHP), Endion-Voco (E), Endomethasone-Sep

Indirect resin-bonded fiber-reinforced composite anterior bridge: A case report.

The loss of anterior teeth can be painful for patients, both psychologically and socially. In recent years, fiber-reinforced composite resins (FRCs) have gained increasing acceptance in mainstream prosthodontics as viable alternatives to alloy-based restorations. A combination of good esthetics and fracture toughness validates their use in a diverse range of clinical applications. In this study, a bridge was constructed with hybrid composite resin placed around a resin-impregnated, plasma-etched, polyalkene fiber bonded to the abutment tooth enamel using the acid-etch technique. This method of
