BACKGROUND: The prevalence of partial-thickness rotator cuff tears (PTRCTs) has been reported to be 13% to 40% within the adult population, accounting for 70% of all rotator cuff tears. Approximately 29% of PTRCTs will progress to full-thickness tears if left untreated. The long-term clinical course after arthroscopic repair of PTRCTs is not well known.
PURPOSE: To investigate minimum 10-year patient-reported outcomes (PROs) after arthroscopic rotator cuff repair (RCR) of the supraspinatus tendon and to report reoperation and complication rates.
STUDY DESIGN: Case series; Level of evidence,

BACKGROUND: Although fibromyalgia is associated with poor outcomes following orthopedic surgeries, several studies show some benefit from surgical intervention and nevertheless recommend operative treatment when indicated. There is sparse evidence of the effect of fibromyalgia on the outcomes of shoulder surgery. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of fibromyalgia on patient-reported outcomes of arthroscopic rotator cuff repair (ARCR).
METHODS: All patients with a confirmed diagnosis of fibromyalgia who underwent ARCR in one institution between 2010 and 2021 were included.

BACKGROUND: Rotator cuff lesions are a common shoulder pathology mainly affecting patients aged >50 years. This condition is accompanied by not only pain and loss of function but also impaired quality of life and psychological stress. A frequently employed treatment option is arthroscopic repair. But expectations regarding the outcome after surgery might differ between patients and surgeons and therefore lead to dissatisfaction on both sides. The aim of this study was to document patient expectations of a planned arthroscopic rotator cuff repair and compare the results with the assessment of s

INTRODUCTION: The footprint medialization allows a tension free repair in severely retracted rotator cuff tears (RCT), thereby de-creasing the rate of retear. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the clinical and radiological results in a cohort of chronic RCT treated with medialized repair. Secondary purpose was to analyze the impact of medialization length on shoulder function and tendon healing.
HYPOTHESIS: It was hypothesized that the medialization length would have an impact on clinical and radiological outcome.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: A consecutive series of thirty patients that unde

BACKGROUND: Cases of rapidly destructive osteonecrosis (RDON) of the humeral head after arthroscopic rotator cuff repair (RCR) have rarely been reported, which has prevented a clear consensus on the cause of osteonecrosis.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 63-year-old woman without a history of trauma underwent arthroscopic RCR after being diagnosed with a medium-sized full-thickness rotator cuff tear for symptoms of left shoulder pain for six months. The patient had no medical history other than hypertension, and no other potential cause was found for osteonecrosis of the left shoulder prior to surgery.

Background: Rotator cuff tears are common causes of functional shoulder instability and often lead to arthroscopic rotator cuff repair. A well-programmed rehabilitation leads to successful tendon healing, positive functional recovery and subjective well-being (SWB). Objective: To evaluate the changes in shoulder functioning and SWB pre-, post-outpatient rehabilitation and after one-month follow-up. Materials and Methods: A total of 44 patients were assessed three times: at the beginning (six weeks' post-surgery), at the end of outpatient rehabilitation (2-3 weeks) and one month after rehabilit

BACKGROUND: Muscle atrophy (MA) and fatty infiltration (FI) are degenerative processes of the rotator cuff musculature that have incompletely understood relationships with the development of eccentric glenoid wear in the setting of primary glenohumeral osteoarthritis (GHOA).
METHODS: All patients with GHOA and an intact rotator cuff who underwent both magnetic resonance imaging and computed tomography scans of the affected shoulder prior to total shoulder arthroplasty between 2015 and 2020 were identified from a prospectively maintained registry. Rotator cuff MA was measured quantitatively on

INTRODUCTION: Rotator cuff disorders present a high retear rate despite advances in surgical treatment. Tissue engineering could therefore be interesting in order to try to enhance a more biological repair. RhBMP-2 is one of the most osteogenic growth factors and it also induces the formation of collagen type I. However, it has a short half-life and in order to get a more stable release over time it could be integrated in a more slowly degradable carrier, such as an alginate-chitin scaffold. The aim of this study was to investigate the role of the alginate-chitin scaffold alone and in combinat

BACKGROUND: Suture bridge repair has been widely used as one of the standard procedures in the arthroscopic rotator cuff repair. We compared the intratendinous stress distribution between single and double suture passing techniques in the suture bridge repair using a 2-mm tape and clarified the roles of tensioning in this procedure.
METHODS: A board-like model of the supraspinatus tendon and humeral head was used in order to standardize conditions and exclude the influence of anatomical variations between individuals. Reattachment of the supraspinatus tendon to the bone was simulated using bo

BACKGROUND: A common complication of rotator cuff (RC) repair is a postoperative stiffness. Postoperative stiffness may develop and lead to inferior functional outcomes. Rotator cuff repair with additional rotator interval (RI) capsular release can be done to prevent postoperative stiffness in rotator cuff tears. However, routine rotator interval capsular release in rotator cuff repair is controversial. Therefore, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to compare the postoperative outcomes between RC repair with and without RI capsular release for RC tears with and without concomit
