Impact of singlehood during pregnancy on dietary intake and birth outcomes- a study in the Norwegian Mother and Child Cohort Study.

BACKGROUND: Little attention has been given to the impact of singlehood during pregnancy. The aim of this study was to examine the impact of marital status on diet during pregnancy and pregnancy outcome. METHODS: The study population comprised 62,773 women participating in the Norwegian Mother and Child Cohort Study. Marital status was categorised into singles living alone, singles living with parents and married/cohabiting (reference group). Participants answered a general health questionnaire in gestational week 15-17 and a food frequency questionnaire in gestational week 22. We used nonpar

Observed parenting behaviors interact with a polymorphism of the brain-derived neurotrophic factor gene to predict the emergence of oppositional defiant and callous-unemotional behaviors at age 3 years.

Using the Durham Child Health and Development Study, this study (N = 171) tested whether observed parenting behaviors in infancy (6 and 12 months) and toddlerhood/preschool (24 and 36 months) interacted with a child polymorphism of the brain-derived neurotrophic factor gene to predict oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) and callous-unemotional (CU) behaviors at age 3 years. Child genotype interacted with observed harsh and intrusive (but not sensitive) parenting to predict ODD and CU behaviors. Harsh-intrusive parenting was more strongly associated with ODD and CU for children with a methionin

Prenatal diagnosis of glycogen storage disease type II: enzyme assay or mutation analysis?

Two mutations in the lysosomal alpha-glucosidase gene, a single base pair deletion (delta T525) and a deletion of exon 18, have recently been identified with a relatively high incidence in Caucasian patients with glycogen storage disease type II (GSD II). Prenatal diagnosis was made in a pregnancy of consanguineous parents of a child with GSD II. The delta T525 deletion was demonstrated in this family but unexpectedly in only one of the parents. The absence of the delta T525 deletion in DNA isolated from the chorionic villi and a normal alpha-glucosidase activity indicated that the fetus was n

Fucithalmic, chloramphenicol or no treatment after squint surgery in children. A single blind randomised study.

One hundred and four children undergoing strabismus surgery were randomised post-operatively to one of three treatment groups; 1) fucithalmic drops twice daily; 2) chloramphenicol (chlormycetin) ointment twice daily; 3) no treatment. Allocation to the 'no treatment' group had to be stopped after 3 of the first 8 patients in the group developed severe mucopurulent conjunctivitis. A parental questionnaire and clinical assessment, carried out in a single blind fashion revealed that nearly all parents were able to apply the prescribed treatment and that both treatments were effective in preventing

Clinical pharmacokinetics of verapamil.

Verapamil is widely used in the treatment of supraventricular tachyarrhythmias as well as for hypertension and control of symptoms in angina pectoris. Unlike other calcium antagonists, detailed pharmacokinetic data are available for verapamil. Plasma concentrations of verapamil appear to correlate with both electrophysiological and haemodynamic activity after either intravenous or oral drug administration, although considerable intra- and intersubject variation has been found in the intensity of pharmacological effects resulting at specific plasma drug levels. Verapamil is widely distributed t

Analysis of influencing factors of parents' job stress of preschool children with mental retardation based on preference score matching.

BACKGROUND: Intellectual disability (ID), affecting 1%-3% of children globally, presents significant challenges for parents that often translate into occupational stress. While studies document elevated parenting stress levels (33.57 vs 26.46 in controls), job-related impacts remain poorly understood. This study employs propensity score matching (PSM) to rigorously analyze work stress determinants among parents of preschool-aged children with ID, controlling for socioeconomic and behavioral confounders. The research bridges a critical gap by examining how workplace demands intersect with speci

A threshold model analysis of deafness in Dalmatians.

To elucidate the inheritance of deafness in Dalmatian dogs, 825 dogs in 111 litters were evaluated for abnormalities in hearing through the brainstem auditory evoked response (BAER). Recorded along with their quality of hearing (normal, unilaterally deaf, or bilaterally deaf) were the sex, coat color, eye color and the presence or absence of a color patch. The analysis considered deafness an ordered categorical trait in a threshold model. The underlying, unobservable continuous variate of the threshold model was assumed to be a linear function of sex of dog, coat color (black or liver and whit

Reimagining maternal and infant wellbeing through AI-embedded integrative arts-based care: a public health perspective.

The peripartum period and early parenting are critical phases for maternal health, infant development, family functioning, and long-term wellbeing. Although maternal and child health services have traditionally prioritized pregnancy safety, childbirth security, and neonatal survival, contemporary public health agendas increasingly emphasize maternal mental health, positive birth and postnatal experiences, parent-infant bonding, and family-centered support. Evidence suggests that music therapy, mindful music listening, artistic expression, doula support, aromatherapy, parent-infant singing, and

Limited Dispersal and Fragmentation-Induced Genomic Erosion in Southern Greater Gliders (Petauroides volans).

Forest fragmentation and isolation are critical threats to arboreal marsupials. The endangered southern greater glider (Petauroides volans) is vulnerable to the effects of forest loss and fragmentation, yet the species' natural dispersal patterns and genetic outcomes under different habitat contexts remain poorly understood. This study characterises population genomic patterns in southern greater gliders from continuous and isolated forests in southeastern New South Wales, Australia. Using genome-wide single nucleotide polymorphisms, we genotyped southern greater gliders (n = 70) sampled from

Familial SYNGAP1 variants define the boundaries of a complex neurodevelopmental disorder with epilepsy.

OBJECTIVE: SYNGAP1-related disorders are common neurodevelopmental conditions characterized by autism spectrum disorder, developmental delay, intellectual disability, and a range of generalized seizure types. Disease-causing variants in SYNGAP1 typically occur de novo. This study aims to characterize inherited cases of SYNGAP1-related disorders. METHODS: Here we report three families including eight total individuals with inherited, protein-truncating variants in SYNGAP1, recruited through a natural history study. In two of the families, the proband inherited their pathogenic variant from a h

Expression of interleukin-6 by a recombinant rabies virus enhances its immunogenicity as a potential vaccine.

Several studies have confirmed that interleukin-6 (IL6) mediates multiple biological effects that enhance immune responses when used as an adjuvant. In the present study, recombinant rabies virus (RABV) expressing canine IL6 (rHEP-CaIL6) was rescued and its pathogenicity and immunogenicity were investigated in mice. We demonstrated that mice received a single intramuscular immunization with rHEP-CaIL6 showed an earlier increase and higher maximum titres of virus-neutralizing antibody (VNA) as well as anti-RABV antibodies compared with mice immunized with the parent strain. Moreover, survival r
