To obtain functional studies of the cervical spine, a device has been developed which allows MRI examinations to be carried out in five different degrees of flexion. T1 and T2* weighted FFE sequences were used. PURPOSE: To evaluate a slow-flow MR sequence in normal CSF flow and in CSF flow disturbance in cases of spinal stenosis.
METHOD: The method was tested for flow sensitivity and applied to 67 sites of spinal canal compromise.

To explain the cause of axial rotation in a scoliotic vertebral column, the influence of the gravitation force on a spine with a C-scoliosis has been investigated by means of a mechanical model. Spinal column fractures in children are unusual. This article presents concise methods of evaluation and management of these injuries with regard to their alignment, stability, and possible spinal canal compromise. The role of radiographic imaging is defined and illustrated by example. The author recommends the techniques outlined in this chapter for stabilization of those spinal column injuries in children when surgery is thought to be indicated.

X-ray examinations of the lumbar spine from a two-year period in 268 Greenlanders and an equivalent number of danes were reviewed in order to diagnose all radiological lesions. Twenty-five percent of the X-ray examinations of the Greenlanders and 28% of the Danes showed normal conditions. Eighteen percent of the Greenlanders and 3% of the Danes had evident sacroliitis. Four Greenlanders and one Dane had radiological ankylosing spondylitis. Bilateral facet dislocation represents approximately 11% of all thoracolumbar spine injuries requiring surgical stabilization. The injury can be caused by either flexion distraction (29/30 cases) or by pure distraction (1/30). Chylothorax is an uncommon occurrence seen most frequently in patients with malignancy. We report a case of chylothorax following fracture-dislocation of the thoracolumbar spine, the ninth reported case in the English literature. Seven cases of chylothorax were identified in a 12-year period at our institution.
