Presented is a case report of a tibialis posterior tendon rupture associated with a closed ankle fracture. The treatment is open reduction and fixation at the bony fragments with primary repair of the tendon. This injury, although rare, illustrates that soft-tissue injuries must be considered in the management of unusual or complex fractures.

Patellar tendon ruptures can be debilitating injuries. When incomplete, partial tears can be managed nonsurgically with immobilization and progressive rehabilitation. Although complete ruptures remain a relatively uncommon injury, they portend a high level of morbidity. Ruptures typically result from an acute mechanical overload to the extensor mechanism, such as with forced quadriceps contraction and knee flexion. However, chronically degenerated tendons are also predisposed to failure from low-energy injuries. Diagnosis can often be made clinically with recognition of a palpable defect to th

We present a rare case of concurrent open Achilles tendon tear and pure subtalar dislocation in a 20-year-old male following a motorcycle accident, highlighting the complexity of managing such unique musculoskeletal injuries. The patient was initially admitted with an open and deformed left ankle, underwent prompt primary debridement, and received immediate medical intervention. Despite unsuccessful attempts to reduce the dislocation through external maneuvers, subsequent radiographic evaluation revealed a subtalar dislocation associated with a 90° rotation of the talus. A direct reduction was

Tendon and ligament injuries account for a substantial proportion of disorders in the musculoskeletal system. While non-operative and operative treatment strategies have advanced, the restoration of native tendon and ligament structures after injury is still challenging due to its innate limited regenerative ability. Cell sheet technology is an innovative tool for tissue fabrication and cell transplantation in regenerative medicine. In this review, we first summarize different harvesting procedures and advantages of cell sheet technology, which preserves intact cell-to-cell connections and ext

Tendon and ligament injuries are the most common musculoskeletal injuries, which not only impact the quality of life but result in a massive economic burden. Surgical interventions for tendon/ligament injuries utilize biological and/or engineered grafts to reconstruct damaged tissue, but these have limitations. Engineered matrices confer superior physicochemical properties over biological grafts but lack desirable bioactivity to promote tissue healing. While incorporating drugs can enhance bioactivity, large matrix surface areas and hydrophobicity can lead to uncontrolled burst release and/or

PURPOSE: Complete proximal hamstring avulsion injuries are anatomically complex because of their proximity to the sciatic nerve. This study characterises neurological abnormalities following injury and surgical repair. Although denervation has been described, its severity, pattern and diagnostic thresholds in relation to magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings, anatomical innervation and tendon retraction distance remain poorly defined.
METHODS: In this prospective longitudinal cohort study, 18 patients undergoing surgical repair of MRI-confirmed complete proximal hamstring avulsion were ev

BACKGROUND: The absence of a single, identifiable traumatic cause has been traditionally used as a definition for a causative factor of overuse injury. Excessive loading, insufficient recovery, and underpreparedness can increase injury risk by exposing athletes to relatively large changes in load. The musculoskeletal system, if subjected to excessive stress, can suffer from various types of overuse injuries which may affect the bone, muscles, tendons, and ligaments.
METHODS: We performed a search (up to March 2018) in the PubMed and Scopus electronic databases to identify the available scient

BACKGROUND: Patellar tendon ruptures are relatively common injuries, often caused by high tensile forces on a weakened tendon. In younger patients, they typically result from eccentric loading on the extensor mechanism, whereas in older patients, trauma is the more common cause. These injuries can be functionally limiting and challenging to treat when chronic due to tendon atrophy, scarring, and proximal retraction.
INDICATIONS: Reconstruction is indicated for patients with chronic, symptomatic patellar tendon ruptures confirmed by clinical and radiographic evaluation.

INTRODUCTION: Peroneal tendon injuries are a significant cause of lateral ankle symptoms in the active population. Accurate diagnosis and prompt treatment is important for minimizing the risk of long-term sequelae associated with chronic peroneal tendinopathy. Although several studies have been published on diagnostic strategies and treatment outcomes, there is no consensus on the optimal management of peroneal tendon pathologies.
PURPOSE: The purpose of this ESSKA-AFAS consensus statement was to conduct an international and multidisciplinary agreed guideline on management of patients with pe…

A new anatomical variation of extensor digiti minimi (EDM) was discovered during our anatomical studies. The EDM usually gives one tendon to the little finger to extend the metacarpophalangeal joint (MPJ) independently from the other fingers. The EDM in our cadaver had three tendon slips. It supplied the MPJ of the little finger with two tendon slips. Along with the extensor digitorum communis (EDC), the EDM also had an additional slip to the ring finger MPJ extensor hood apparatus. The little finger also received a separate tendon from EDC.

This report describes treatment of patients who presented with open soft tissue injuries andAchilles tendon tears at the posterior ankle and heel from accidents. After appropriate debridement and/or Achilles tendon repair a large wound defect remained as well as a bare Achilles tendon. Negative pressure wound therapy was applied to the Achilles tendon to promote wound healing and healthy granulation. The size of wound decreased and the Achilles tendon was completely covered with granulation within two weeks. The remaining granulation tissue without tendon exposure was completely healed with se

BACKGROUND: The relationship between hamstring muscle injuries (HMIs) that involve the intramuscular tendon and prolonged recovery time and increased reinjury rate remains unclear in elite footballers.
OBJECTIVE: To determine the association of time to return to full training (TRFT) and reinjury of HMIs using the British Athletic Muscle Injury Classification (BAMIC) and specific anatomical injury location in elite-level football players.
METHODS: The electronic medical records of all players at an English Premier League club were reviewed over eight consecutive seasons. All players who susta

BACKGROUND: Multiligament injuries can severely impair knee stability and function, leading to long-term complications if not managed. Injuries involving the posterolateral corner (PLC), especially when combined with anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tears, require prompt anatomic reconstruction to restore normal knee function.
INDICATIONS: Unrecognized or inadequately treated PLC injuries can lead to persistent varus and rotational instability, increasing stress on cruciate ligament grafts and compromising reconstruction outcomes. Thus, timely surgical reconstruction of all 3 primary PLC stab

We report on a 71-year-old male farmer who sustained an injury to the tendons of the triceps brachii and the Achilles tendon on the left side. The diagnosis was based on clinical investigations and ultrasound. The triceps brachii tendon was repaired with open transosseous sutures. Six weeks after the operation we only allowed passive mobilization. The Achilles tendon rupture was treated with a semi-open procedure. Four weeks after the operation the ankle was fixed in 30 degrees plantar flexion, followed by 2 weeks in neutral position. Full weight bearing was allowed. Six months after the opera

Radial nerve palsies present a challenging clinical scenario, often leading to substantial functional impairment. This study focuses on evaluating the outcomes of tendon transfer surgeries in patients with post-traumatic radial nerve injuries. The radial nerve, vital for upper limb movements, faces various etiologies, such as trauma, compression, or idiopathy. Patients with radial nerve palsy encounter difficulties in daily activities, emphasizing the need for effective management strategies. The research introduces a novel evaluation protocol, aiming to comprehensively assess tendon transfer

The posterolateral corner is critical to knee stability. Neglected injuries have a direct impact on the prognosis due to residual instability, chronic pain, deformities, and failure to repair other structures. Several techniques are used to reconstruct the posterolateral corner, often with autologous ischiotibial grafts or homologous grafts. An option little used for knee ligament reconstructions is the peroneus longus tendon graft. Although reported as a good alternative for anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, we found no case using a peroneus longus tendon graft for posterolateral cor
