The palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reaction of 2-PyMe2SiCH2SnBu3 with aryl iodide (Ar-I) exclusively produced the 2-PyMe2SiCH2 transferred product 2-PyMe2SiCH2Ar. The relative transfer ability of organic group from tin was found to be 2-PyMe2SiCH2 >> Ph > Me > Bu >> PhMe2SiCH2, which implies the beneficial pyridyl-to-palladium coordination effect. Thus, the transfer of the silylmethyl group from tin to palladium was remarkably accelerated by simply appending the 2-pyridyl group on silicon. A new open-framework tin(II) sulfate, formulated as C4H12N2·Sn(SO4)2·H2O, was prepared under the structure-directing effect of piperazine. This compound features a 3D structure with 16-ring channels. Under ultraviolet light irradiation, it emits bright yellow luminescence with a near-unity photoluminescence quantum yield. Theoretical calculations were carried out to understand the luminescence mechanism.

The new phosphaalkenyl(chloro)tin(II) compound NHC-Sn(Cl)[C(SiMe3)=PMes*] was isolated and fully characterized including molecular structure determination by a single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Its reaction with Me2SAuCl led to the formation of an unprecedented P=C-bridged trinuclear gold complex [AuC(SiMe3)=PMes*]3 through the transfer of the phosphaalkenyl substituent to the gold atom.

Highly luminescent network films on flat indium tin oxide (ITO) substrates are prepared by electropolymerization using an electroactive and fluorescent compound as precursor; the LEDs prepared using these films as a light emitting layer achieve the maximum luminance and external quantum efficiency of 4224 cd/m(2) and 0.72%, respectively, which demonstrates that electrochemical synthesis can be a new route to construct the highly luminescent films.

Three novel aluminum-containing tin(IV) heterobimetallic sulfides are reported. The reaction of [LAl(SLi)2(THF)2]2 (1) [L = HC(CMeNAr)2, Ar = 2,6-iPr2C6H3] with Ph2SnCl2, Me2SnCl2, and SnCl4 in THF respectively afforded LAl(mu-S)2SnPh2 (2), LAl(mu-S)2SnMe2 (3), and LAl(mu-S)2Sn(mu-S)2AlL (4) in moderate yields. Compounds 2, 3, and 4 were characterized by elemental analysis, NMR, electron-impact mass spectrometry, and single-crystal X-ray structural analysis.

The excellent birefringent materials are needed for optical systems. Herein, we reported a new compound, the first tin borate chloride, Sn2 B5 O9 Cl (SBOC) with a large birefringence (0.168 at 546 nm) measured by the polarizing microscope. Its birefringence is 16 times that of the isostructural Ba2 B5 O9 Cl (BBOC) compound (0.010@ at 546 nm). The results show that the birefringence enhancement originates mainly from the Sn2+ polyhedra. We report here on the synthesis, crystal structure, optoelectronic and vibrational properties, as well as the DFT calculations of the novel trimethylsulfonium tin trichloride (CH3)3SSnCl3. The air-stable compound is prepared by reacting the (CH3)3SCl and SnCl2 solid precursors in evacuated silica tubes at 100 °C.
