Predicting retinal sensitivity using optical coherence tomography parameters in central serous chorioretinopathy.

PURPOSE: To predict changes in retinal sensitivity using optical coherence tomography (OCT) in eyes with central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC). METHODS: Twenty-three eyes in 23 patients with CSC were enrolled. Retinal sensitivity was measured twice using microperimetry in all the examined eyes. Spectral domain OCT measurements were simultaneously conducted. The relationship between retinal sensitivity and the thicknesses of (i) the retinal nerve fiber layer plus the ganglion cell layer (RNFL + GCL), (ii) the inner nuclear layer (INL), (iii) the outer nuclear layer (ONL), and (iv) the serous

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) angiolytics: a review of OCT angiography quantitative biomarkers.

Optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) provides a non-invasive method to obtain angiography of the chorioretinal vasculature leading to its recent widespread adoption. With a growing number of studies exploring the use of OCTA, various biomarkers quantifying the vascular characteristics have come to light. In the current report, we summarize the biomarkers currently described for retinal and choroidal vasculature using OCTA systems and the methods used to obtain them. Further, we present a critical review of these methods and key findings in common retinal diseases and appraise future

Group-wise context selection network for choroid segmentation in optical coherence tomography.

Choroid thickness measured from optical coherence tomography (OCT) images has emerged as a vital metric in the management of retinal diseases such as high myopia. In this paper, we propose a novel group-wise context selection network (referred to as GCS-Net) to segment the choroid of either normal or high myopia eyes. To deal with the diverse choroid thickness and the variable shape of the pathological retina, GCS-Net adopts the group-wise channel dilation (GCD) module and the group-wise spatial dilation module, which can automatically select group-wise multi-scale information under the guidan

Optical Coherence Tomography based treatment approach for patients with Acute Coronary Syndrome.

Areas covered:In this review, we outline the underlying causes of acute coronary syndrome (ACS) as evaluated by optical coherence tomography (OCT). We report both the definitions of each mechanism and its frequency as reported in the literature to date. Finally, we present an algorithm based on the findings in the review that gives an outlined approach to perform intervention on ACS patients.Expert opinion:Although the most common and most accepted intervention in ACS cases is stent implantation, data suggest a stentless approach in cases of plaque erosion, which generally occurs in younger pa

Optical coherence tomography angiography vessel density parameters in primary open-angle glaucoma.

BACKGROUND: Many studies suggest the existence of an alteration of the retinal hemoperfusion in primary open-angle glaucoma. The OCT-A is a novel technique that allows to provide information on retinal microcirculation in a non-invasive way, thus it represents a possible imaging target for the early diagnosis and follow-up of glaucoma. The aim of our work is to evaluate the contribution of vascular parameters provided by OCT-A and their diagnostic abilities in the different stages of primary open-angle glaucoma. METHOD: This is a prospective cross-sectional study involving 200 eyes of control

Hypotony maculopathy captured with vertical rasters on optical coherence tomography (OCT) imaging.

PURPOSE: To remind eye care providers of the importance of obtaining vertical rasters in OCT evaluation of patients with suspected hypotony maculopathy. OBSERVATIONS: OCT with vertical rasters may identify chorioretinal folds that are missed by ophthalmoscopic examination, fundus photography, and traditional OCT with horizontal rasters alone. CONCLUSIONS AND IMPORTANCE: In patients with low IOP and decreased vision, OCT imaging with horizonal and vertical rasters should be obtained to diagnose hypotony maculopathy and monitor response to treatment.

Standardization of Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography Imaging Biomarkers in Diabetic Retinal Disease.

Optical coherence tomography Angiography (OCT-A) represents a revolution in the noninvasive evaluation of retinal and choroidal circulation especially in detecting early clinical signs of diabetic retinal disease (DRD). With appropriate use, OCT-A characteristics and measurements have the potential to become new imaging biomarkers in managing and treating DRD. Major challenges include (a) provision of standardized outputs from different OCT-A instruments providing standardized terminology to correctly interpret data; (b) the presence of artifacts; (c) the absence of standardized grading or int

Developing a normative database for retinal perfusion using optical coherence tomography angiography.

Visualizing and characterizing microvascular abnormalities with optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) has deepened our understanding of ocular diseases, such as glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and age-related macular degeneration. Two types of microvascular defects can be detected by OCTA: focal decrease because of localized absence and collapse of retinal capillaries, which is referred to as the non-perfusion area in OCTA, and diffuse perfusion decrease usually detected by comparing with healthy case-control groups. Wider OCTA allows for insights into peripheral retinal vascularity,

Colon phantoms with cancer lesions for endoscopic characterization with optical coherence tomography.

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a growing imaging technique for real-time early diagnosis of digestive system diseases. As with other well-established medical imaging modalities, OCT requires validated imaging performance and standardized test methods for performance assessment. A major limitation in the development and testing of new imaging technologies is the lack of models for simultaneous clinical procedure emulation and characterization of healthy and diseased tissues. Currently, the former can be tested in large animal models and the latter can be tested in small animal disease mo
