Audit of treatment of duodenal ulcer disease has allowed management to improve and keep abreast of rapid advances in care. Eradication of Helicobacter pylori was assessed by 14C urea breath test one to two months after anti-Helicobacter therapy. The old triple therapy regime of bismuth, tetracycline and metronidazole for two weeks was found to be toxic and of low effectiveness (82%). The fourth national pressure ulcer prevalence survey was conducted on November 9, 1995, with stuff at 265 acute-care hospitals surveying 39,874 patients for the presence of pressure ulcers. Helicobacter pylori is associated with diffuse superficial gastritis and is one of the dominant causal factors for duodenal ulcer disease. Gastric juice acidity was examined in 131 patients with gastric ulcer. In 31 (23.7%) patients it appeared to be high, in 57 (43.5%)-normal, in 42 (32.8%)-low. In 28.6% cases the pepsin concentration was high, in 26.5%-normal, in 44.9% - low. In elder patients, patients with cardial ulcer, plural and combined ulcers, big size ulcers, long-term ulcer anamnesis the rate of low acidity increases. Among patients with unsatisfactory results of conservative treatment 15.8% had high acidity and 38.7% low acidity. Low acidity is an unfavorable prognostic factor.

PURPOSE: We studied a case of corneal ulceration in utero from lower eyelid entropion.
METHODS: A 3-week-old male infant was referred for examination of a left corneal ulcer that was present at birth and unresponsive to antibiotics.
RESULTS: Examination disclosed a lower eyelid entropion that was treated surgically by a nonincisional method, leaving a central leukoma after re-epithelialization.
CONCLUSION: Congenital lower eyelid entropion should be included in the differential diagnosis of congenital corneal opacities.
