In the realm of hip preservation, hip arthroscopy is often used to address intra-articular impingement pathology, whereas periacetabular osteotomy (PAO) is used to address dysplasia and instability. Endoscopic fullthickness resection is a technique that allows in block resection of colonic lesions in patients in whom conventional endoscopic methods such as endoscopic mucosal resection or endoscopic submucosal dissection have failed. We present a case of a 75-year-old man with history of a difficult-to-resect colon adenoma. He had undergone two previous failed attempts of endoscopic mucosal resection due to non-lifting sign in another center. We successfully performed an endoscopic full-thickness resection procedure, avoiding unnecessary surgery.

We report the case of a 73-year-old lady who was seen with an infected sinus leaking from the wound of a recently inserted right total hip joint prosthesis. Plain radiographs revealed gas shadows in the region of the wound. An intra-operative sinogram showed the sinus to be coming from a pelvic diverticular abscess and the hip to be an innocent bystander. Our case emphasises the importance of having a clear preoperative plan with relevant investigations before a radical operative procedure is undertaken, to avoid unnecessary risk to a non-infected hip prosthesis.

Although episiotomy is one of the most commonly performed surgeries, little scientific support exists for this procedure. Furthermore, the suggested advantages of routine episiotomy are challenged easily and the surgery is not without risks. Adverse effects arising from episiotomy include an increased incidence of severe lacerations, blood loss, pain, delayed healing, dyspareunia, psychologic trauma, and medical cost. Nurses can assist women in avoiding perineal trauma resulting from unnecessary episiotomy through patient education, patient advocacy, and direct care.

The success rate of large (6 and 7 mm) bimedial rectus recessions in 45 congenital esotropes with deviations of 50 prism dioptres or greater was found to be 91%. Judgment of final alignment was made six weeks postoperatively, with an average follow-up of 13 months. Large bimedial rectus recessions are an effective surgical treatment for congenital esotropia. This procedure does not significantly alter adduction, and leaves other muscles available should further surgery be necessary. These findings show that initial surgery on three or more muscles is unnecessary in congenital esotropia.

Nineteen cases of anterior hypospadias corrected by Van der Meulen's operation are reviewed. Principle of this procedure is presented, pointing out some important details for successful results. Rare complications were observed and in all cases the final aspects of the penis is good, and the meatus can be made as near the tip as possible. This technique is very easy, urinary diversion is not used, and hypospadias may be repaired in pre-school time. Chordee is unnecessary cured before urethroplasty. A post-operative rotation of the penis can occur, but generally disappears in some months.

During the past twenty years fundoplication has found widespread propagation. Due to its effectiveness it is today the most often applied operative procedure of reflux-preventing surgery. As such the method must be reserved for clearly demonstrated reflux disease and its organic complications. Since November 1969, 53 patients have been operated on at the Toronto General Hospital for cardiac valve replacement with valves fashioned from autologous fascia lata. Sixty-three such valves have been inserted, including single aortic and mitral, double and triple valve replacements. The preliminary results indicate that operative mortality, considering the status of the patient submitted to the procedure, is comparable to that of plastic prosthetic valve replacement at this centre.
