Polarization-resolved infrared pump-stimulated Raman probe spectroscopy was used to measure the lifetimes of OH stretching vibrations in liquid water, giving rise to polarized and depolarized Raman signals. The lifetime of the OH stretch for the polarized Raman was determined to be 200 fs, in excellent agreement with previous measurements. We investigate the dynamical behavior and vibrational properties of three structurally distinct two-dimensional systems: a supercooled binary liquid, a dodecagonal quasicrystal (DDQC), and a hexagonal crystal. Using molecular dynamics simulations, we find that all three systems exhibit transient caging in the mean-squared displacement and non-Gaussian single-particle displacement statistics.
