Dysphagia is a frequent and potentially serious complication of Parkinson's disease (PD). We examined the oropharyngeal swallowing ability in 19 PD patients (15 men and 4 women, mean age 68.42 years, mean Hoehn and Yahr stage 1.8) using modified barium swallow before and after administering oral levodopa (in combination with benserazide). Adhesions have been suggested as a possible cause of chronic abdominal pain, but the reports of their etiological role conflict. Lysis of adhesions has been proposed as the therapeutic modality of choice, although the reports of success are controversial. The aim our prospective study was to determine whether laparoscopic adhesiolysis ameliorates chronic abdominal pain in patients with abdominal adhesions. We report the results of botulinum toxin type A (Dysport, Porton Products, UK) treatment over 5 years in 107 patients with blepharospasm, Meige's syndrome, oromandibular dystonia, hemifacial spasm, cervical dystonia, and writer's cramp. Electromyography was used to localize dystonic muscles and guide Dysport injections in Meige's syndrome, oromandibular dystonia, cervical dystonia, and writer's cramp.
