A questionnaire survey of 285 consecutively recruited adolescents who were adjudicated to juvenile correctional facilities in Virginia was conducted using the Inhalant Use Questionnaire (1). White youths (36.1%) and youths from other ethnic backgrounds (44.4%) are significantly more likely to report past inhalant use than black youths (1.4%). The median age reported for first-time use of inhalants is 13 years. Youths were divided between those who experimented with inhalants (27%) and those who were heavy users (27%). OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the concussion history of young athletes using three questions on the preparticipation screening (PPS) and a concussion symptom survey (CSS).
DESIGN: Descriptive survey.
SETTING: Mass high school PPS.
PATIENTS OR OTHER PARTICIPANTS: Five hundred twenty young athletes.

We propose a modification of the spatial scan statistic that takes account of workflow, which is the movement of individuals between home and work. Although hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HC) is believed to be a relatively uncommon cardiac disease, the frequency with which it occurs in the general or cardiac population has not been defined. To address this issue, the patient population of a community-based echocardiography laboratory was used to assess the prevalence of HC in 714 consecutively studied outpatients with (or suspected of having) heart disease. To assess the relative efficacy of amniocentesis versus targeted (detailed) ultrasonography, 225 patients referred because of an elevated maternal serum alpha-fetoprotein level (79.6%) or a family history of neural tube defect (20.4%) were evaluated. Hospitalized and domiciliary patients were studied to determine the incidence of the endemic nematode Strongyloides stercoralls in stool samples.
