Gastric volvulus is a rare mode of revelation of congenital diaphragmatic hernia. This is an uncommon condition that may be difficult to diagnose in the paediatric population. We here report the case of a three-month-old infant presenting with a rapid worsening of acute dyspnoea. Chest X-ray showed image clarity and ascending gastric air sac. METHODS: Twelve pigs were anaesthetized with sodium pentobarbital (< or =30 mg/kg.b.w.) and 846 mixture (< or =0.1 ml/kg.b.w.) and counterpulsed in a lateral position for 2 h every two days (totally 36 h) with 0.025 to 0.04 MPa/cm(2) pressure.

Yersiniosis was prevalent among a caprine herd during the late autumn of 2003 in Iwate Prefecture, Japan. The disease affected 29 of about 100 lactating goats, but not dried or nonparous goats, mature male goats or kids. Four animals died within an epidemic period of 20 days. Three children are reported with mitochondrial encephalomyopathy who presented with autonomic dysfunction. Autonomic dysfunction included gastrointestinal dysmotility, apnea, cardiac arrhythmias, decreased lacrimation, supersensitivity to metacholine, altered sweating, and postural hypotension. These patients illustrate that in some mitochondrial encephalomyopathies autonomic features may be prominent and can mimic the clinical features associated with hereditary sensory and autonomic neuropathies.
