Serum samples from 45 hypothyroid dogs, 11 clinically healthy dogs and 31 dogs with various clinical endocrinopathies, seborrhoea and dermatitis were tested for thyroglobulin antibodies using the passive hemagglutination test. A chromic chloride (CCH)- and a glutaraldehyde (GCH) method were used in the assay. Circulating antibody titer against thyroglobulin were observed in 34 % and 24 % of dogs with hypothyroidism by the CCH and the GCH method, respectively. Three of 12 dogs with seborrhoea had low titers (20 to 40) of thyroglobulin antibodies. Thyroglobulin antibodies were observed in 1 of 3

Evidence has been presented by others that betaMSH immunoreactivity in human plasma is due to beta and gamma lipotropin rather than betaMSH. We have studied this question in normal subjects utilizing a sensitive human betaMSH radioimmunoassay capable of quantifying betaMSH in unextracted plasma with a sensitivity of 7.5 pg/ml. Purified human beta lipotropin cross-reacted 30% on a molar basis with synthetic human betaMSH in this assay. ACTH related peptides showed less than 0.1% cross-reactivity. Normal values at 0800 h were 19.6+/-2.4 pg/ml and suppressed to 9.3+/-1.3 pg/mol following dexameth

INTRODUCTION: SARS-CoV-2, the virus responsible for COVID-19, is primarily associated with respiratory illness but can also affect multiple organ systems, including the endocrine system. Viral entry into endocrine tissues may lead to immune activation and trigger or unmask autoimmune conditions in individuals who are genetically predisposed. Autoimmune Polyendocrine Syndrome type 2 (APS-2), a rare disorder characterized by autoimmune Addison’s disease (AAD) and autoimmune thyroid disease (AITD), may represent one such manifestation.
CASE PRESENTATION: We report the case of a 36-year-old male

BACKGROUND: Harderoporphyria arises from biallelic CPOX gene mutations, leading to coproporphyrinogen oxidase deficiency in the inner mitochondrial membrane. The impact of CPOX gene mutations on adrenal function remains poorly understood.
OBJECTIVE: Characterizing primary adrenal insufficiency (PAI) in 2 siblings with harderoporphyria.
METHODS: Clinical data were recorded, and genetic analysis was performed by whole genome sequencing (WGS). Plasma steroids and urinary porphyrins were measured by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry and high-performance liquid chromatography, respectively.

Environmental motion can induce physiological stress and trigger motion sickness. In these situations, lower-than-normal levels of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) have been linked with increased susceptibility to motion sickness in healthy individuals. However, whether patients with primary adrenal insufficiency, who typically have altered ACTH levels compared to the normal population, exhibit alterations in sickness susceptibility remains unknown. To address this, we recruited 78 patients with primary adrenal insufficiency and compared changes in the motion sickness susceptibility scores f

OBJECTIVES: Polyglandular autoimmune syndromes (PAS) are characterized by the association of two or more autoimmune diseases (AID) and are classified into four types. PAS type 1 is more frequently manifested in childhood, but the prevalence of other PAS in children, less described in the literature, seems to be underestimated.
METHODS: This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of PAS in a selected pediatric population of 879 children with Diabetes mellitus type 1 (DM1), autoimmune thyroid disease (AITD), and Addison's disease (AD) followed in our hospital for 10 years and describe and class

Primary adrenal insufficiency (PAI) is an endocrine disorder characterized by direct adrenal failure, with consequent glucocorticoid, and eventually mineralocorticoid, deficiency. In children, the main cause of PAI is congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH), due to a loss of function of adrenal steroidogenic enzymes, but also rarer forms, including autoimmune polyglandular syndrome, adrenoleucodistrophy, adrenal hypoplasia congenita, familial glucocorticoid deficiency, and Allgrove's Syndrome, may be observed. In PAI children, growth alterations represent a major issue, as both inadequate and exc

A70-year-old man, with established hypoadrenalism due to a previous bilateral adrenalectomy, was admitted with recurrent episodes of postural dizziness and presyncope. He had been discharged from hospital 3 weeks earlier on a 1-month course of cotrimoxazole following a diagnosis of prostatitis. His electrolytes on admission showed new onset hyponatraemia and hyperkalaemia. His usual glucocorticoid replacement dose was doubled in view of a presumed diagnosis of hypocortisolaemia. However, the hyperkalaemia persisted. On rereviewing his treatment, we suspected a possible diagnosis of cotrimoxazol

Immunotherapy has changed the treatment landscape for cancer patients; however, immune‐related adverse events, such as primary and secondary adrenal insufficiency, can be life threatening, with potential differences in population incidence. This letter to the editor reports a real‐world experience of Hispanic/Latino patients treated with immunotherapy and the incidence of adrenal insufficiency.

OBJECTIVE: Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) targeting cytotoxic T-lymphocyte antigen 4 or programmed death 1 and its ligand (programmed death ligand 1) have been approved for the treatment of a variety of cancers. However, ICI therapy is associated with a risk of immune-related adverse events. In this study, we reviewed reported cases of adrenalitis and primary adrenal insufficiency (PAI)-rare but lethal endocrine immune-related adverse events-in patients who underwent ICI therapy.
METHODS: We searched multiple databases (PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane, and Scopus) up to February 2020 fo

We report a case of primary adrenal insufficiency (PAI) due to adrenal tuberculosis with no findings of active tuberculosis in the lung of a 51-year-old female patient. The patient was admitted with a 10-year history of skin hyperpigmentation and was diagnosed with PAI. The primary cause was adrenal tuberculosis. An adrenocorticotropic hormone stimulation test, T-Spot test and adrenal computed tomography scan were used to confirm the diagnosis. The patient's status improved, and the hyperpigmentation subsided after 15 months of treatment with anti-tuberculosis drugs and cortisol replacement th

A 15-year-old boy presented with pink proliferative plaque over both lips. The child was born to a non-consanguineous couple, at full term, and uneventful antenatal, perinatal history. Examination revealed a cobblestone appearance over tongue with papilliferous projections in both labial mucosa with slate-grey pigmentation. The child had multiple lipomatosis and thyroid swelling. Father had thyroid swelling with multiple epidermoid cysts. A final diagnosis of Cowden syndrome. Genetic analysis could not be performed due to financial constraints. Oral mucosal cobblestone appearance is seen in Da
