Pompe disease (type 2 glycogenosis, acid maltase deficiency) is a disorder affecting skeletal and cardiac muscle, caused by deficiency of acid alpha-glucosidase. In 2006 enzyme therapy with recombinant human alpha-glucosidase received marketing approval based on studies in infants. Results in older children and adults are awaited. The effects of sibutramine on voltage-gated K+ channel (Kv)4.3, Kv1.3, and Kv3.1, stably expressed in Chinese hamster ovary cells, were investigated using the whole-cell patch-clamp technique. Simian Virus 40 wild type (SV40)-transformed Chinese hamster embryo cells (Co631) contain about five viral copies integrated per cell genome.
