We describe a five-generation kindred with familial eosinophilia (FE; MIM131400), characterized by the occurrence of sustained eosinophilia of unidentifiable cause in multiple relatives. Ferritins are proteins that play a central role in maintaining intracellular iron balance. A Schistosoma mansoni adult worm cDNA expression library was screened using rabbit IgG against PIII, an adult worm protein fraction, already known to possess protective and immunomodulating effects to a challenge infection in mice.
