Swept-source optical coherence tomography assessment of iris-trabecular contact after phacoemulsification with or without goniosynechialysis in eyes with primary angle closure glaucoma.

AIMS: To compare the change in iris-trabecular contact (ITC) area using swept-source optical coherence tomography (SS-OCT) in eyes with primary angle closure glaucoma (PACG) and cataract that underwent phacoemulsification (PE) with intraocular lens implantation alone compared with PE with goniosynechialysis (GSL). METHODS: One eye of 22 patients with PACG with peripheral anterior synechiae (PAS) detected by indentation gonioscopy was randomised into two groups (PE alone (n=11) and PE+GSL (n=11)). The anterior chamber angles were evaluated by SS-OCT under dark conditions before and 12 months a

Management of chronic or intermittent primary angle-closure glaucoma: a long-term follow-up of the results of peripheral iridectomy used as an initial procedure.

Patients presenting with either intermittent closed-angle glaucoma which gave to subacute congestive attacks or with chronic angle-closure glaucoma were followed up over 12 years. Peripheral iridectomy was performed as a primary procedure on these patients during this period. It was found to be a highly effective procedure in those patients without field loss at the time of presentation, but because of the figures presented here we would recommend that any patient presenting with angle closure and disc and field changes should have a trabeculectomy performed as a primary procedure. We found no

Marked Discordance Between Visual Field Loss and Optic Disc Cupping Revealing MOG Antibody-Associated Optic Neuritis in a Patient With Angle-Closure Glaucoma.

This study reports a case of MOG antibody-associated optic neuritis masquerading as acute angle-closure glaucoma in which marked discordance between optic disc cupping and visual field loss prompted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and led to the correct diagnosis. A 69-year-old woman presented with acute ocular pain, decreased vision, and intraocular pressure exceeding 40 mmHg in the right eye. Humphrey visual field testing demonstrated nearly complete central visual field loss, whereas fundus examination revealed only mild optic disc cupping. Because the severity of visual field loss was dis

Primary angle closure glaucoma (PACG) susceptibility gene PLEKHA7 encodes a novel Rac1/Cdc42 GAP that modulates cell migration and blood-aqueous barrier function.

PLEKHA7, a gene recently associated with primary angle closure glaucoma (PACG), encodes an apical junctional protein expressed in components of the blood aqueous barrier (BAB). We found that PLEKHA7 is down-regulated in lens epithelial cells and in iris tissue of PACG patients. PLEKHA7 expression also correlated with the C risk allele of the sentinel SNP rs11024102 with the risk allele carrier groups having significantly reduced PLEKHA7 levels compared to non-risk allele carriers. Silencing of PLEKHA7 in human immortalized non-pigmented ciliary epithelium (h-iNPCE) and primary trabecular meshw

Altered homotopic functional connectivity in primary angle-closure glaucoma correlates with cell-type-specific neurotransmitter and gene expression transcriptional signatures: a functional MRI study.

BACKGROUND: Altered homotopic functional connectivity in primary angle-closure glaucoma (PACG) and their underlying molecular mechanisms remain poorly understood. In our study, we investigated voxel-mirrored homotopic connectivity (VMHC) alterations in patients with PACG and the molecular mechanisms of VMHC. METHODS: In this study, we investigated alterations in VMHC among 47 patients with PACG and 45 matched healthy controls. We then integrated these spatial patterns with cortical transcriptomic data from the Allen Human Brain Atlas using partial least squares (PLS) regression to identify ge

Association of Genes implicated in primary angle-closure Glaucoma and the ocular biometric parameters of anterior chamber depth and axial length in a northern Chinese population.

BACKGROUND: The membrane frizzled-related protein (MFRP) gene is involved in axial length (AL) regulation and MFRP mutations cause nanophthalmos; also, the hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) gene is reported to result in morphologic changes of the anterior segment and abnormal aqueous regulation that increases the risk of primary angle-closure glaucoma (PACG), while the zinc ring finger 3 (ZNRF3) gene is associated with AL. The present study investigated the association of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in ZNRF3, HGF and MFRP with PACG in a northern Chinese population, as well as the assoc
