We retrospectively analyzed 1802 nonrectal Chlamydia trachomatis-positive specimens to determine if the L strains responsible for rectal Lymphogranuloma venereum in men who have sex with men could spread to the heterosexual population. No evidence for Lymphogranuloma venereum transmission among heterosexuals in France was observed in 2013. L2b strains seem to be restricted to the men who have sex with men population.

How single, partnered lesbian, and partnered heterosexual women undertaking donor insemination rate the importance of donor characteristics is explored in the context of Trivers's parental investment theory. Consistent with this theory, single women placed higher value on biographical traits reflective of the donor's level of potential resources (occupation, hobbies, age) and good character compared with either partnered lesbian or heterosexual women.

High annual figures of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are diagnosed in the Netherlands despite significant efforts to control them. Herein, we analyse trends and determinants of STI diagnoses, co-infections, and sexual risks among visitors of 26 STI clinics between 2007 and 2011. We recorded increased positivity rates of STIs (chlamydia, syphilis, gonorrhoea, and/or HIV) in women and heterosexual men up to 12.6% and 13.4%, respectively, in 2011, while rates in men having sex with men (MSM) were stable but high (18.8%) through the documented years. Younger age, origin from Surinam/Antil

PURPOSE: This study examined associations between sexual identity and both substance use and mental health outcomes via nationally representative data from adolescents and young adults, using a six-response sexual identity assessment.
METHODS: Data were from 11,328 adolescents (12-17 years) and 13,131 young adults (18-25 years) completing the 2023 National Survey on Drug Use and Health. Sexual identity had six-response options: heterosexual, lesbian/gay, bisexual, using a different term, unsure/don't know, and do not understand the question. Substance use variables included alcohol, cannabis,

PURPOSE: Sexual minority (SM; e.g., gay, lesbian, bisexual) individuals are disproportionately impacted by alcohol and other drug (AOD) use disorders and psychosocial factors that can exacerbate AOD use disorders and hinder recovery. This study examines SM sub-group differences (monosexual [gay/lesbian] versus bisexual) regarding adaptation to recovery measured by indices of psychosocial functioning. Identifying differential needs of gay/lesbian versus bisexual individuals could improve services to better meet the needs of SM individuals in recovery.
METHODS: Using data from the National Reco

Cluster analysis of HIV sequence can provide insights into viral transmission patterns in border regions. This study aims to illuminate the HIV-1 subtype distribution and transmission dynamics among newly diagnosed individuals in Dehong prefecture, a region along the China-Myanmar border. Among 948 participants with pol gene sequences, 36 HIV-1 subtypes were identified, with URFs (18.8%, 178/948) being the dominant strain, followed by CRF01_AE (18.5%, 175/948) and CRF07_BC (10.9%, 103/948). Additionally, 287 sequences (30.3%, 287/948) were grouped into 91 clusters, 31 of which contained both C

BACKGROUND: Differences in alcohol, tobacco, and other drug (ATOD) use by sexual identity vary across samples of women recruited using different sampling methods. We used propensity score (PS) weighting methods to address two methodological questions: (1) Do disparities between sexual minority women (SMW) and heterosexual women persist when differences in risk and protective factors are similarly distributed between groups, and (2) Does accounting for SMW-specific resiliency factors impact differences between non-probability samples of SMW?
METHODS: Four samples included SMW from a longitudin

INTRODUCTION: Although structural discrimination against sexual and racial/ethnicity minorities is a putative risk factor for youth tobacco use, understanding health disparities in youth E-cigarette use at the intersection of sexual orientation, race, and ethnicity is still lacking. This study aims to examine the differences in E-cigarette use prevalence among U.S. youth at the intersections of sexual orientation with race and ethnicity.
METHODS: E-cigarette use status (never, experimental, or current use) was analyzed among 38,510 U.S. youth using a pooled data set from the Youth Risk Behavi

BACKGROUND: Access to sufficient, safe, culturally appropriate, and nutritious food is essential for maintaining both physical and mental health. Despite a growing body of evidence suggesting that sexual minority (SM) people experience significant disparities in socioeconomic and material resource security, there remains a paucity of empirical studies examining the prevalence of food insecurity among SM people relative to their heterosexual peers.
OBJECTIVES: To determine the prevalence of adult and household food insecurity across sexual orientation groups in the United States after adjustin

INTRODUCTION: Lesbian, gay, and bisexual (LGB) individuals smoke at rates 1.5-2 times higher than the general population, but less is known about LGB consumption of other tobacco products (OTPs) and gender differences. OTP use among young adult LGB bar patrons and the relationship among past quit attempts, intention to quit, and binge drinking with OTP use was examined.
METHODS: A cross-sectional survey of young adults (aged 18-26) in bars/nightclubs in seven U.S. cities between 2012 and 2014 (N=8,010; 1,101 LGB participants) was analyzed in 2016. Logistic regressions examined current use of

BACKGROUND: Research shows that sexual minorities (e.g., lesbian, gay, and bisexual individuals) experience higher levels of discrimination, stigma, and stress and are at higher risk of some poor health outcomes and health behaviors compared to their heterosexual counterparts. However, the majority of studies have examined sexual orientation disparities in a narrow range of health outcomes and behaviors using convenience samples comprised of either men or women living in restricted geographic areas.
METHODS: To investigate the relationship between sexual orientation identity and health among

In order to test the hypothesis whether there is variation in hormonal levels or response to hormonal manipulation that could permit a distinction between heterosexuals and transsexuals, we designed the following protocol: Six male-to-female (m-to-f) transsexuals, six heterosexual control females and six female-to-male (f-to-m) transsexuals were given estradiol benzoate (E2B) (4.5 micrograms/kg/12 hr) for five days. In the female population, E2B treatment was initiated on day 5 of the menstrual cycle. In all the subjects blood luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), es

The present study examined the effects of hypermasculinity and exposure to male gender role violations on antigay anger and aggression. Participants were 148 heterosexual men who were randomly assigned to view either a male-male or a male-female erotic video. Participants completed a measure of hypermasculinity and anger was assessed before and after viewing the erotic video. A laboratory paradigm was then used to measure physical aggression toward a gay or heterosexual man. Hypermasculinity predicted greater increases in anger among men who viewed male-male erotica relative to men who viewed

The current methods used in the diagnosis of gonorrhoea are reported. The sites sampled in symptomatic patients who were not gonorrhoea contacts and those sampled in symptomless contacts are described. Urethral specimens were taken routinely from all male heterosexual and active homosexual patients with a urethral discharge but in only 81% and 82% respectively of these patients if they were symptomless gonorrhoea contacts. Not all consultants would repeat investigations (smear and/or cultures) in gonorrhoea contacts if the initial ones were negative; heterosexual male and active homosexual pat

BACKGROUND: The occurrence of, and risk factors for, HHV-8 infection have yet to be definitively determined, particularly among heterosexual individuals with at-risk behavior for sexually transmitted infections (STI). The objective of this study was to estimate the incidence and determinants of HHV-8 infection among HIV-uninfected individuals repeatedly attending an urban STI clinic.
METHODS: Sera from consecutive HIV-uninfected individuals repeatedly tested for HIV-1 antibodies were additionally tested for HHV-8 antibodies using an immunofluorescence assay. To identify determinants of HHV-8

A new technique of enhancement of heterosexual responsiveness is described. This uses a classical conditioning paradigm with heterosexual photographic material as the CS and erections elicited by a vibrator as the UCS. A 44-year-old fetishist was treated in this manner. His response to treatment was favorable and details of change are presented. The timing of physiological and diary measure changes is in line with an explanation in terms of the treatment procedure. However, attitude changes began before treatment commenced.

Lesbian, gay, bisexual (LGB) and transgender and gender-diverse (TGD) adults experience elevated alcohol and tobacco use relative to heterosexual and cisgender adults, yet longitudinal trajectories of these disparities in midlife and older adulthood remain underexplored. Using data from the first three waves of the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging (CLSA; N = 45,079), we examined trajectories of drinking frequency, binge drinking frequency, smoking frequency, and daily cigarette consumption among aging Canadian LGB and TGD adults compared to their heterosexual and cisgender counterparts.
