BACKGROUND: The Schedules for Clinical Assessment in Neuropsychiatry (SCAN), the successor of the ninth version of the Present State Examination (PSE-9), is one of the latest instruments developed by the World Health Organisation for the assessment of psychiatric disorders. So far, the psychometric properties have only been established for certain sections of the instrument. The present study is the first to test the psychometric properties of SCAN-2.1 for most of the disorders covered by the SCAN, and was carried out prior to a survey conducted in the Nijmegen Health Area (the Netherlands).

INTRODUCTION: Hypospadias is a common disease that affects approximately 1 in every 200 live male births in the United States, and long-term studies of individuals who have undergone repair demonstrate complication rates of 15%-70%. The Hypospadias-Specific Health-related Quality of Life (HRQOL) Conceptual Framework for youth and adults suggests that additional morbidity may be incurred from poor psychological, social, and sexual health. The current study sought to clarify hypospadias-specific HRQOL and care priorities in a pre-pubertal population.

INTRODUCTION: Receiving a diagnosis of cystic fibrosis (CF) is often a life-shattering experience for families. Ongoing support from healthcare professionals who understand the realities of living with CF is essential. We aimed firstly to evaluate the disease-related experiences and coping strategies of families with young children diagnosed with CF and secondly to identify the unmet needs of this vulnerable population considering the risk of developmental delays.
METHODS: An in-depth interview was conducted with each child's family individually, and the researcher recorded their responses us

PURPOSE: The war metaphor is one strategy used frequently in breast cancer to inspire individuals in a "fight" against cancer and assist patients in navigating their illness experience. Despite prominent use, the emotional impact of this language has not been examined in the context of meaning making among women with metastatic breast cancer (MBC).
METHODS: This study involved a semi-structured interview considering the war metaphor's impact on women's illness experience with MBC. Participants (n = 22) had been diagnosed with MBC for at least 6 months or following 1 disease progression and we

BACKGROUND: Although an association between smoking and suicide has repeatedly been shown, information about a modifying influence of smoking on other risk factors for suicide is lacking.
METHODS: Axis I and Axis II disorders, sociodemographic factors, and tobacco use were assessed by a semi-structured interview including the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-IV Axis I (SCID-I) and Personality Disorders (SCID-II) in 163 suicides (mean age 49.6+/-19.3 years; 64.4% men;) by psychological autopsy method and by personal interview in 396 living population-based control persons (mean age 51.6+/

Currently, the study of esports is growing within the field of psychology. Among the different variables attracting interest - including stress or psychological factors associated with performance - an emerging concept known as tilt is gaining prominence in the literature. However, this construct has yet to be operationalized or defined. Thus, the present study aims to address this gap by defining and conceptualizing TILT while devising and validating a questionnaire to measure the construct in esports players. The initial phase of the study comprised 27 interviews conducted with professional

Intimate partner violence (IPV) affects individuals of all genders and can result in adverse physical, psychological, and social outcomes. Experiences of IPV in men remain understudied when compared with those of cisgender women, leading to considerable gaps in understanding of prevalence, experiences, disclosure, and outcomes. The Male Experiences of Intimate Partner Violence Study (ME-IPV Study) was designed to explore: nature of IPV experiences, physical and psychological impacts, barriers to reporting/disclosing, experiences of disclosure, experiences of support, and support needs in a Nor

BACKGROUND: Bipolar disorder (BD) causes ongoing stress for family caregivers due to its recurring nature. Resilience can reduce stress but may also lead to excessive coping efforts, causing chronic strain. Coping styles, reflecting resilience, can both mitigate immediate stress and worsen long-term fatigue. Current research overlooks how BD-specific factors like aggression influence the "resilience-coping-burden" relationship. This study examines how coping styles mediate these effects to guide targeted interventions.
METHODS: A cross-sectional and descriptive study was conducted among 176 f

BACKGROUND: The mental health and medical follow-up of people living with HIV (PLWH) have been disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The objectives of this study were to assess anxiety, depression and substance use in Mexican PLWH during the pandemic; to explore the association of these symptoms with adherence to antiretroviral therapy (ART), and to compare patients with and without vulnerability factors (low socioeconomic level, previous psychological and/or psychiatric treatment).
METHODS: We studied 1259 participants in a cross-sectional study, PLWH receiving care at the HIV clinic in Mexico

BACKGROUND: Cases of suicide documented earlier all over the world reflect the presence of suicide behavior in primitive world at a higher rate compared to general urban population. The cause of such behavior is thought to be different among tribes and mental health was rarely presumed to be associated. In India, several ethnographic narratives described instances of suicides among several tribes, but evaluation of psychological traits were lacking. The present study on Idu Mishmi is an attempt to further validate earlier report of high rate of suicides among them and to evaluate psychological
