Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) and Recombinant Growth Factor Therapies in Cutaneous Wound Healing: Mechanisms, Clinical Applications, and Future Directions.

Background: Chronic cutaneous wounds such as diabetic foot ulcers, venous leg ulcers, pressure injuries, and burns remain a global clinical burden. These wounds are often arrested in inflammatory or ischemic stages due to impaired angiogenesis and growth factor deficiencies. Biologic therapies, such as platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and recombinant growth factors, aim to restore these deficits and accelerate repair. Methods: A narrative review of PubMed and Google Scholar (2015-2025) identified 64 English-language studies, including randomized controlled trials, meta-analyses, and translational in

[Conservative treatment of Malgaigne fracture in young female--case report].

INTRODUCTION: Pelvic ring injuries usually result from high-energy trauma, and cranial and abdominal multiple injuries are frequently present. Malgaigne fracture is referred to pelvic ring disruption at two sites, and is often treated surgically for its instability. We present a case of nonoperative treatment of Malgaigne pelvic fracture. CASE OUTLINE: A 17-year-old girl sustained a Malgaigne fracture falling off a horse. After ruling out urgent multiple trauma in local hospital, she was then transferred to Pediatric Orthopedic and Trauma Service at the Institute of Orthopedic Surgery "Banjic

Intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring of somatosensory evoked potentials during hip arthroscopy surgery.

Arthroscopic hip surgery is used to treat many of the causes of hip pain, hip instability, and hip disorders. Hip pain and instability are often caused by injuries to the acetabular labrum. Repairing labral tears, suturing, and debridement involve stabilizing the hip and placing the operative side leg in traction (Phillipon 2006, Phillipon and Schenker 2006) to allow for instrument clearance and to avoid iatrogenic injury to the chondral surfaces. This places the sciatic nerve in a stretched position and may cause temporary or permanent nerve injury. Transient neuropraxia is the most common in

[Total hip arthroplasty with a less invasive anterolateral approach].

Soft tissue injury in total hip replacements has recently developed into a main topic of orthopaedic surgery. The M. glutaeus medius is at risk to be injured in Watson-Jones' approach to the hip. A special technique in positioning of the leg offers the possibility to save the integrity of the muscles. While profiling the femur shaft the leg is held underneath the opposite leg in outer rotation, hyperextention and forced adduction. The advantage in comparison to other less invasive techniques is the common supine position of the patient on the table. The different technical steps are easy to ac

Virtual reality pain control during physical therapy range of motion exercises for a patient with multiple blunt force trauma injuries.

Patients with severe blunt force trauma injuries (e.g., multiple fractures and/or internal injuries) often experience severe to excruciating pain during medical procedures. We explored the adjunctive use of immersive virtual reality (VR) to distract a patient with multiple blunt trauma injuries from his procedural pain during physical therapy. The patient was a 32-year-old male hospitalized after suffering upper and lower extremity injuries when he was hit by a semi truck as a pedestrian. While a nurse assisted the patient's passive range of motion (ROM) leg exercises over two days, the patien

[Compartment syndrome in popliteal artery injury].

Between 1973 and 1988 50 patients with injuries of the popliteal artery were treated at the Medical School of Hannover University. While 26 patients with dislocations of the knee joint had mild soft tissue injuries, most of the 24 patients with periarticular fractures of the tibia and/or femur showed excessive soft tissue damage. In both groups 11 patients who were admitted with prolonged ischemia had to undergo amputations. Primary amputations were performed according to the recommendations of. The mean duration of ischemia was 5.5 h (range 2.2-9 h) in patients with knee dislocations (n = 21)

A Novel Passive Back-Support Exoskeleton With a Spring-Cable-Differential for Lifting Assistance.

Lower back injuries are the most common work-related musculoskeletal disorders. As a wearable device, a back-support exoskeleton (BSE) can reduce the risk of lower back injuries and passive BSEs can achieve a low device weight. However, with current passive BSEs, there is a problem that the user must push against the device when lifting the leg to walk, which is perceived as particularly uncomfortable due to the resistance. To solve this problem, we propose a novel passive BSE that can automatically distinguish between lifting and walking. A unique spring-cable-differential acts as a torque ge

Anterior tibial loading on the calf enhances anterior tibial translation in the anterior cruciate ligament deficient knee in the anterior gravity radiographic view.

BACKGROUND: Lateral radiograph in the prone position with the knee flexed at 15° (anterior gravity view (AGV)) is useful as a screening for anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries, while it is sometimes difficult to find the side-to-side difference (SSD) in anterior tibial translation. Thus, we applied a weight (three kilograms) around the lower leg to increase anterior tibial translation. We aimed to determine whether weight load confers an advantage in visualizing anterior knee laxity in ACL injuries. METHODS: Fifty-eight patients with confirmed unilateral ACL tears from February 2012 to

Leg Joint Stiffness Affects Dynamics of Backward Falling From Standing Height: A Simulation Work.

Falling backward can lead to injuries including hip fracture, back injury, and traumatic brain impact among older adults. A loss of consciousness is associated with falling backward and accounts for about 13% of all falls among older adults. Little is known about the dynamics of backward falls, such as the falling duration, the impact severity, and how the fall dynamics are affected by the biomechanical properties of the lower limb joints, particularly the rotational stiffness. The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of the stiffness of individual leg joints on the dynamics

Comparison of gluteal and hamstring activation during five commonly used plyometric exercises.

BACKGROUND: Anterior cruciate ligament injuries occur frequently in athletics, and anterior cruciate ligament injury prevention programs may decrease injury risk. However, previous prevention programs that include plyometrics use a variety of exercises with little justification of exercise inclusion. Because gluteal and hamstring activation is thought to be important for preventing knee injuries, the purpose of this study was to determine which commonly used plyometric exercises produce the greatest activation of the gluteals and hamstrings. METHODS: EMG (Electromyography) amplitudes of the h

Distally based fasciocutaneous flaps: a versatile option for coverage of difficult war wounds of the foot and ankle.

Early reconstructive treatment of war-related lower extremity injuries can be feasible even when evacuation to ideal tertiary facilities is impossible. However, in such instances, lengthy procedures considered "state of the art" in the everyday civilian practice of plastic surgery are often impractical, and alternative options need to be sought. Undelayed distally based fasciocutaneous flaps of the leg have recently been used in 12 cases of extensive defects of the foot due to antipersonnel mine injuries. All patients, treated during the conflict in Bosnia-Herzegovina, were smokers and were be
