This prospective study tested the self-complexity buffering hypothesis that greater self-complexity moderates the adverse impact of stress on depression and illness. This hypothesis follows from a model that assumes self-knowledge is represented in terms of multiple self-aspects. As defined in this model, greater self-complexity involves representing the self in terms of a greater number of cognitive self-aspects and maintaining greater distinctions among self-aspects. Twelve non-epileptic patients with psychogenic "convulsive" pseudoseizures were studied to delineate useful diagnostic criteria. Six patients had severe psychological disturbances, a long pseudoseizure history and a poor prognosis, while the other six showed little psychopathology, had undergone a recent emotional trauma to account for their pseudoseizures and had a relatively good prognosis. The characteristics of a typical attack precipitated by suggestion, the ictal or post-ictal EEG and the overall patient profile allowed a definite diagnosis in each case.

Unwed pregnant adolescents were contrasted with nulligravid teenagers seeking contraception. Pregnant subjects were less likely to employ or plan to use contraceptives. Gravid subjects more often described their boyfriends as happy about the pregnancy and expressed a desire for a pregnancy. Nulligravid youngsters described their parents as more disapproving of their premarital sexual activity. There is a need for counseling programs, including adolescents of both sexes, and aimed at the modification of attitudes toward contraception.

This study presents a comparative analysis of family and school situation among adolescent girls, who attempted a suicide and those who did not. The control group was represented by normative sample of school girls of Lithuania.
