Psychological Safety and Work Design as Mediators of Supervisors' Dark Triad Traits Impact on Nurses' Task Performance.

OBJECTIVES: This study investigates how nurse supervisors' Dark Triad personality traits (Machiavellianism, narcissism, psychopathy) influence nurses' task performance, mediated by perceptions of enriched work design (autonomy, task variety, social support, safe work conditions, feedback quality) and psychological safety. METHODS: A multisource approach was used to collect data from 256 manager-nurse dyads across various healthcare settings. Nurses completed surveys assessing their work design and psychological safety. Managers completed a self-assessment of Dark Triad traits and rated their

Vitamin D and Calcium Supplementation in Nursing Homes-A Quality Improvement Study.

Even though dietary supplements with vitamin D and calcium are recommended to nursing home residents, we recently reported a low adherence to this recommendation. The objective of this 20-week quality improvement study was to use the Model for Improvement and Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) cycles to improve adherence in Danish nursing homes. We included two nursing homes with 109 residents at baseline. An information sheet including the rationale for the recommendation was developed for the nurses to urge residents to take the supplements and seek approval by the general practitioner afterwards (PDS

The clinical efficacy of integrated care in combination with vasopressin for cardiogenic shock induced by acute myocardial infarction: A randomized controlled study protocol.

BACKGROUND: Cardiogenic shock (CS) is the most serious complication of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) with high mortality, and the conventional nursing mode can not meet the clinical needs. Studies have shown that integrated care model has advantages for critical and chronic diseases. However, there is no clinical study to evaluate the clinical efficacy of this nursing model on cardiogenic shock induced by acute myocardial infarction (CS-AMI). METHODS: This is a prospective randomized controlled trial to study the clinical efficacy of integrated care combined with vasopressin in the treatm

An easy method for interpreting the results of arterial blood gas analysis.

Interpretation of acid-base disturbances is an essential skill for critical care nurses. Using the H model makes this process easy. When students and novice critical care nurses feel competent with certain skills, their confidence levels are greatly enhanced. One of us (K.M.K.) has been using the H model for many years to teach students how to interpret the results of arterial blood gas analysis. The students are often amazed at how easy and fun the model makes learning a subject many perceive as complex.

The mediating and moderating role of psychological resilience between occupational stress and mental health of psychiatric nurses: a multicenter cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: The particular occupational stress of psychiatric nurses has a negative impact on their mental health. There is evidence that psychological resilience can promote mental health; however, the relationship between resilience in occupational stress and mental health of psychiatric nurses is unclear, and mental health was assessed from a psychopathological perspective, neglecting the role of positive psychology. Therefore, this study was based on a dual-factor model of mental health, describing mental health in terms of both positive well-being and psychiatric symptoms. We aimed to inv

Stressed and Short: Creating a Balanced and Innovative Preceptor Model in a Medical Intensive Care Unit.

An innovative preceptor model (IPM) was developed to transition newly graduate nurses (NGNs) to practice. The imbalanced number of experienced nurses to NGNs during COVID-19 demonstrated a need for an "out-of-the-box" solution, one preceptor to two nurse residents, in the medical intensive care unit. The IPM was evaluated through surveys, postclinical immersion debriefs, and feedback sessions with the preceptors and NGNs. The IPM helped preceptors guide NGNs in their journey to independent practice.

Bridging the Gap in Chronic Disease Management: A Nursing Perspective on the Use of Predictive Tools and Telemedicine in the Hospital-Community Transition.

Chronic diseases represent one of the most complex, costly, and significant challenges for healthcare systems. The increase in chronic conditions and multimorbidity, together with the growing demand for continuity of care makes the vulnerability of the hospital-to-community transition increasingly evident. This phase is often characterized by delays, fragmented services, and insufficient support for patients and caregivers, leading to higher rates of early readmission and substantial clinical, social, and economic impacts. This paper was developed through a narrative synthesis of international

What nursing stress subscales do and do not measure: general-factor dominance and item applicability in a 57-item German nursing stress instrument-a psychometric evaluation study.

BACKGROUND: Nursing Stress Scale family instruments are intended to distinguish workplace stress domains, but validation studies have produced varying subscale structures. Few have examined whether a dominant general factor contributes to this variation or how 'not applicable' responses in the Expanded Nursing Stress Scale Discrimination domain affect measurement. OBJECTIVES: To evaluate validity evidence for use of the German-language Stress in Nursing-57 (STERN-57), examine whether observed subscale scores add information beyond conditional stress severity, and test whether 'not applicable'

Advocacy in Action: Advancing State Policy Change to Strengthen School Nurse Salaries in New Mexico.

School nurses are vital advocates for student health, yet the New Mexico workforce has long faced staffing shortages and significant pay inequities. This article describes a successful policy advocacy campaign by the New Mexico School Nurses Association to achieve salary parity. By collecting and leveraging data, including statewide surveys and salary schedule audits, advocates demonstrated that school nurse compensation failed to match the state-mandated three-tiered pay scale guaranteed to teachers. This effort culminated in the passage of House Bill 195 in 2025, standardizing state-wide sch

Nursing leadership for sustainable endoscopy: a narrative review and practice framework.

Gastrointestinal endoscopy is a resource-intensive clinical service that generates substantial waste, consumes water and energy, and depends on disposable accessories, sterile packaging, and complex reprocessing pathways. Although green endoscopy has received increasing attention, current sustainability strategies have often emphasized physician decision-making, technological innovation, or industry-level redesign, while the practical contribution of endoscopy nurses remains insufficiently defined. This narrative review developed a nursing-centred framework for sustainable endoscopy practice,
