Endo-4SRF: Learning Radiance Field for Dynamic Surface Reconstruction of Surgical Tissues With Obstacle Stealth Under Single-View and Depth-Free Monocular Endoscopy.

Monocular endoscope-based reconstruction of dynamic 3D surgical fields is beneficial for both intraoperative manual/robotic manipulation and post-operative surgical skills training. However, the natural characteristics of tissue deformations with instruments and blood obscuration bring great challenges to 3D scene awareness, especially under sparse viewpoints limited by laparoscopic movements. In this work, we propose Endo-4SRF, an effective Neural Radiance Field (NeRF)-based method that can reconstruct deformable tissues with instruments stealth by solely relying on monocular endoscopic image

SSG-CAM: enhancing visual interpretability through refined second-order gradients and evolutionary multi-layer fusion.

Class activation mapping (CAM) is key to understanding how convolutional neural networks (CNNs) make decisions, but current approaches face considerable challenges. First-order gradient-based methods are often affected by noise and are prone to gradient saturation, leading to less accurate localization. These methods also tend to rely on manual selection and merging of feature maps, limiting their ability to leverage complementary information across network layers and resulting in weaker visual explanations. To address these issues, we propose a smooth second-order gradient class activation ma

Human gloss perception reproduced by tiny neural networks.

A key goal of visual neuroscience is to explain how our brains infer object properties such as colour, curvature or gloss. Here we used machine learning to identify computations underlying human gloss judgements-traditionally considered a challenging inference. We rendered thousands of objects with varied shapes using a Ward reflectance model across lighting and viewpoints, then obtained gloss ratings for each image. Observers' judgements were consistent with one another, yet systematically deviated from reality. We compared these ratings with neural networks trained either to estimate physica

AADFNet: An adaptive asymmetric dual-branch fusion network for background-robust grasping.

Robotic grasping, particularly for mobile manipulators, often suffers from performance degradation in diverse, unpredictable backgrounds. Existing RGB-D grasp detection methods frequently struggle to maintain accuracy and efficiency on resource-constrained platforms due to insufficient background robustness. To address this challenge, we propose AADFNet: an Adaptive Asymmetric Dual-branch Fusion Network consisting of three coordinated components for background-robust grasping: 1) an Asymmetric Dual-Branch Encoder (ADE) that processes RGB and depth modalities with specialized backbones to decou

QSPR modeling and multi-criteria ranking of antiviral drugs using degree-based topological indices, artificial neural networks, and TOPSIS.

In the present research work, graph theory has been used to represent the molecular structures of antiviral drugs corresponding to the influenza strain treatment using degree-based topological descriptors and Laplacian energy to understand their structural and physicochemical behavior. The graph theory-based descriptors are used to construct the quantitative structure property relationship and provide input to an ANN model used to predict various physicochemical properties among the selected antiviral drugs. The comparison shows that the ANN model outperforms the Linear Regression model by dem

A nonlinear multi-omics data integration and classification model based on pathway self-attention and graph convolutional networks.

The abundance of omics data has significantly advanced the development of multi-omics data integration techniques. Non-linear embedding approaches for data integration have gradually become the mainstream in multi-omics research, as these approaches can substantially improve cancer analysis by enhancing the quality of the embeddings. However, current multi-omics data integration methods are typically confined to omics measurements, neglecting domain-specific prior knowledge encompassing biological pathways. In this study, we proposed a multi-omics integrated classification model, PathTransGCN,

A long-term reconstruction of a global photosynthesis proxy over 1982-2023.

Satellite-observed solar-induced chlorophyll fluorescence (SIF) is a powerful proxy for the photosynthetic characteristics of terrestrial ecosystems. Direct SIF observations are primarily limited to the recent decade, impeding their application in detecting long-term dynamics of ecosystem function. In this study, we leverage two surface reflectance bands available both from Advanced Very High-Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR, 1982-2023) and MODerate-resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS, 2001-2023). Importantly, we calibrate and orbit-correct the AVHRR bands against their MODIS counterparts

MultiFAR: Multidimensional information fusion with attention-driven representation learning for student performance prediction.

The advancement in computing technology, online learning platforms, and pedagogical tools enable educators and learners to connect without temporal and geographical boundaries. The existing deep learning models to predict student performance are either simple recurrent neural networks or artificial neural networks employing demographic and hand-crafted features. This manuscript proposes a model, MultIFAR, that infuses multi-dimensional information representing different aspects of student behavior with an attention-driven deep learning model integrating bidirectional long short-term memory and

stGRL: spatial domain identification, denoising, and imputation algorithm for spatial transcriptome data based on multi-task graph contrastive representation learning.

BACKGROUND: Spatial transcriptomics now enables sequencing while preserving the spatial location of cells. This significantly enhances researchers' understanding of cellular and tissue functions in their spatial context. However, due to current technical limitations, spatial transcriptomics data often exhibit high dropout rates and noise, posing challenges for downstream analysis, like spot clustering, differential gene analysis, and spatial domain identification. To address those challenges, we propose stGRL, a novel deep multi-task graph neural network model tailored for spatial transcriptom

GLASSR-Net: Glass Substrate Spectral Restoration Neural Network for Fourier Transform Infrared Microspectroscopy in the Fingerprint Region.

Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) microspectroscopy has emerged as a pivotal pathological tool, offering informative spectral biomarkers for numerous diseases. However, the dependency on specialized infrared (IR) substrates limits effective and widespread clinical translation. IR transparent bases like calcium/barium fluoride (CaF2/BaF2) are costly and fragile, while IR reflective bases cannot be used for microscopic screening due to their opacity to visible light. In comparison, 1 mm thick pathological glass substrates are cost-effective, reliable, and widely utilized in clinical pathology. T

Seamless integration for enhanced seizure prediction using HybridConvMobileNet on Typhoon HIL.

Real-time seizure prediction is essential for enabling timely interventions that significantly improve patient outcomes. Therefore, in this present work, we have introduced HybridConvMobileNet, a novel hybrid model that integrates 1D convolutional neural networks (CNN) with the MobileNet model to achieve efficient and accurate seizure prediction. The proposed model uses 1D Short-Time Fourier Transform (STFT) coefficients from pre-processed EEG data as input features. In the proposed algorithm, the developed 1D CNN framework captures the critical spatial features from frequency-domain EEG data,

Improvement of an eye disease detection model by using the denoising diffusion implicit model.

With rapid developments in artificial intelligence (AI), the discussion about and applications of generative AI have increased substantially. Generative AI has extensive and valuable applications in many industrial and medical fields and is a possible solution for industries that struggle to collect large quantities of data. The present study evaluated the use of generative AI in eye disease prediction. Because retinal images are difficult to acquire, this study used a generative AI model [i.e., the denoising diffusion implicit model (DDIM)] to conduct data augmentation, thereby improving the

Enhancing DILI toxicity prediction through integrated graph attention (GATNN) and dense neural networks (DNN).

Drug-induced liver injury (DILI) toxicity is a condition when drugs have a destructive effect on the liver organ. The prediction of this toxicity becomes crucial in the drug development process to guarantee that drugs are safe from toxicity. Assessment is usually carried out in the conventional laboratory, which causes a high cost in materials and time. To help solve the problem, computational technology is used to predict DILI toxicity in compounds and drugs. Many researchers have developed the model by using various molecular datasets. The Simplified molecular input line entry system (SMILES

Granger-TSllm: Granger causality enhanced LLMs with residual-quantized tokenizer for multivariate time series forecasting.

Multivariate time series (MTS) forecasting is essential for process monitoring and decision optimization in numerous real-world domains. Existing deep models need to be trained from scratch on abundant data, resulting in limited generalization. Inspired by the success of large language models (LLMs) on various cross-modality tasks, recent research introduces LLMs for MTS forecasting. However, due to the inherent modality gap between MTS and text, there remain two challenges in generating MTS representations suitable for LLMs and handling the intricate inter-variable dependencies. To tackle the

The spatial attention mechanism enhances its adaptability to clutter, and architectural optimization maintains high accuracy while reducing parameters and boosting efficiency. Experiments show GR-AttNet achieves 98.1% accuracy on the Cornell Grasping Dataset, 94.9% on the Jacquard Dat
