OBJECTIVE: To study the antidepressant agomelatine (M1/M2 agonist and 5-HT2C antagonist) in pathological gambling (PG) (ICD-10 item F63.0).
MATERIAL AND METHODS: An open label 8-week trial was carried out in 22 outpatients (17 male and 5 female, mean age 38±7). PG severity was assessed by the Yale-Brown Obsessive-Compulsive Scale adapted for Pathological Gambling (PG-YBOCS). Anxiety and depression level was measured by the Hospital Anxiety Depression Scale (HADS).

AIM OF THE STUDY: Oral leukoplakia (OL) is the most common potentially malignant disorder that may transform into oral carcinoma. By treating leukoplakia in its incipient stage, the risk of occurrence of oral carcinoma can be prevented. In this aspect, photodynamic therapy (PDT) can serve as a useful treatment modality. BACKGROUND: Tuberculosis remains an important cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide, the diagnosis, staging and treatment response evaluation of which remains sub-optimal. We evaluated PET/CT imaging with a novel tracer, 68Ga-citrate, in this setting.
METHODS: Thirteen patients with tuberculosis underwent PET/CT imaging with 68Ga-citrate. Tuberculosis was diagnosed with bacteriological or histopathology studies (N.=8) or based on a combination of clinical data, biochemistry and imaging (N.=5). PET images were analyzed qualitatively and semi-quantitatively and compared to CT findings.

Recent studies suggest a synergic effect of infection and hypoxia-ischemia in the causation of perinatal brain damage. We conducted a prospective pilot study on the presence of infection in hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE), focusing on neurotropic viruses. Sixteen newborns with HIE were included in the study. There were no confirmed cases of viral infection. We conducted a pilot study to investigate clinical efficacy of tyrosine kinase inhibitor erlotinib in the treatment of acute myeloid leukemia (AML). A total of 11 patients with de novo AML were treated, including 2 with relapsed and/or refractory disease and 9 older patients with previously untreated AML. We investigated whether an expert's consultation provided via telemedicine could improve the quality of care for patients with dysphagia. A trained clinician completed videofluoroscopic swallowing studies (VFSS) of 17 consecutive patients in a Greek hospital. The videofluoroscopic images were then stored on a website for independent review by an expert Speech and Language Pathologist in the US. An extra Rater evaluated 20% of all data for additional reliability testing.
