Like a bolt from the blue: the trauma of facing acute leukemia and lymphoma diagnosis and its clinical implications.

Patients newly diagnosed with acute leukemia or lymphoma face an immediate life-threatening condition and the need for rapidly initiated intensive therapy within specialized hematology settings. These circumstances can trigger significant psychological distress and post-traumatic stress symptoms (PTSS), which may influence treatment adherence, patient-clinician communication, and early clinical outcomes. A total of 68 patients with newly diagnosed acute leukemia or lymphoma completed validated questionnaires assessing PTSS and psychosocial risk factors at the time of diagnosis. PTSS were commo

Pathway From Adverse Interpersonal Experiences to Problematic Mobile Video Gaming Among Vocational Students: The Mediating Role of Psychological Inflexibility and Gender Differences.

Based on the Interaction of Person-Affect-Cognition-Execution model, this study aims to explore the relationship between adverse interpersonal experiences (i.e., peer victimization and parent-child conflict) and problematic mobile video gaming (PMVG), the mediating role of psychological inflexibility, and gender differences. A sample of 3,412 vocational students (61.66% male, 16.90 ± 1.12 years) reported on peer victimization, parent-child conflict, psychological inflexibility, and PMVG. Results indicated that parent-child conflict exerted a stronger influence on PMVG among vocational students

Identification and treatment of eating disorders in the primary care setting.

Eating disorders, which are associated with a host of adverse medical morbidities, negative psychological sequelae, and considerable reductions in quality of life, should be diagnosed and treated promptly. However, primary care physicians may find it uniquely challenging to detect eating disorders in their early stages, before obvious physical problems arise and while psychological symptoms are subtle. Although psychological symptoms may dominate the presentation, the physician is an integral member of the treatment team and is in a unique role to diagnose and treat eating disorders. This clin

An improved system for grading and treating tinnitus.

OBJECTIVE: Tinnitus is an auditory sensation that can cause discomfort or even pain. Because patients with tinnitus frequently have psychological problems, self-reporting of the severity of tinnitus is unreliable. We developed a new grading system and practical protocol for the systematic treatment of tinnitus that accounts for its severity, patients' psychological problems, and the frequency of catastrophic episodes. The aim of this study is to employ and validate the new system in patients with tinnitus. METHODS: This study comprised two parts: (i) We identified 113 patients, who were then

Beyond immersion: disentangling the technological and social drivers of visitor satisfaction in XR art exhibitions.

INTRODUCTION: Although Extended Reality (XR) has fundamentally reshaped curatorial practices in art exhibitions, the psychological mechanisms underlying technology acceptance and revisit intention remain poorly understood. Current research has largely focused on hardware fidelity and passive sensory immersion, providing limited insight into the socio-psychological drivers of user experience and continuous visiting behavior. METHODS: To address this, we developed and validated an integrated socio-technical framework that links XR technological capabilities (presence, immersion, and interactivi

Development and validation of nursing-oriented risk prediction models for anxiety and depression in hospitalized patients with chronic kidney disease: a retrospective cross-sectional study in Southwest China.

BACKGROUND: Psychological disorders such as anxiety and depression are common but often underrecognized among patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), posing challenges for inpatient nursing care. This study aimed to identify key risk factors and develop predictive models to assist clinical nurses in early psychological risk identification and intervention planning. METHODS: This retrospective cross-sectional study for model development included 1,420 adult inpatients with CKD stages 1-5 admitted to a tertiary hospital in Southwest China from March 2023 to March 2025. Anxiety and depressio

From theory to practice: insights into intervention development of the NON-STOP app for children with Perthes' disease.

The development of interventions in healthcare often lacks a robust theoretical basis, which may contribute to suboptimal engagement and effectiveness. This paper provides insights into and practical guidance on the development of complex interventions in healthcare, using the example of a digital self-management tool for children with Perthes' disease, called the Non-Surgical Treatment of Perthes' (NON-STOP) app. We applied the Medical Research Council framework, used psychological theory, and integrated stakeholder engagement to develop the intervention. The lessons learned and consideration

The prehabilitation paradox in ventral hernia: from universal to personalized care.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this narrative review is to critically examine the paradox in ventral hernia repair (VHR): the widespread clinical adoption of prehabilitation despite limited high-level evidence supporting its universal benefit. We aim to deconstruct this evidence-practice gap and propose a risk-stratified framework to guide future practice and research. METHODS: A comprehensive analysis of contemporary literature on prehabilitation for VHR was conducted, focusing on interventions for obesity, nutrition, physical training and psychological preparation. The drivers of clinical practice

Reflecting on the evidence-practice gap - a participatory approach in use of CTG in midwifery practice.

INTRODUCTION: Midwives and obstetricians often overuse Cardiotocography (CTG) when monitoring low-risk births, despite evidence and guidelines recommending intermittent auscultation (IA). This study aims to examine whether and how a participatory intervention can provide initiatives that enhance midwives' use of evidence-based CTG monitoring in low-risk births. METHODS: Midwives and obstetricians from Viborg Regional Hospital participated in workshops at the hospital. Participatory design was applied using the "User Innovation Management" framework to guide two workshops with midwives and obs

Stereotypes About Battered Women and Victim's Self-Defense: Legal Implications.

Recent research on the practices of justice operators with women victims of intimate partner violence has evidenced the existence of gender stereotypes and gender-blind practices in the Spanish legal system (Albertín et al., 2020; García Jiménez et al., 2019, 2020), as well as the graves consequences that such practices imply for these women. In this context, the present study explored the existence of a battered woman stereotype and its variation when the victim defends herself from the abuser. An opportunity sample of 505 undergraduates of Law, Psychology and other studies from two Spanish u

Illness perceptions predict health practices and mental health following hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.

ObjectiveBeliefs about illness have been shown to shape health practices and coping efforts. The present study investigated illness perceptions among patients undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT). We also examined the extent to which perceptions predicted health practices and mental health following transplant.MethodsParticipants (N = 332) completed measures of illness perceptions (beliefs about cancer consequences and course, personal and treatment control over cancer, and understanding of one's cancer) prior to HSCT. Health practices (diet, physical activity, and alcohol use)

A Qualitative Evaluation of Nurses' Perceptions of De-Escalation and Resilience Training for Workplace Violence Prevention.

SIGNIFICANCE/BACKGROUND: Workplace violence is a persistent threat to nurses' safety, well-being, and retention, particularly in acute care settings where patient acuity, time pressure, and emotionally charged interactions can heighten the risk of aggression. De-escalation training is increasingly recommended as a workplace violence prevention strategy, while resilience-oriented support may help nurses cope with the psychological consequences of exposure. However, less is known about how nurses experience these forms of training in routine acute care practice and what contextual factors influe

Evolution of Multifaceted Sport-Related Concussion Management: A 25-Year Narrative Review of Multidomain Assessment and Multimodal Rehabilitation.

CONTEXT: Sport-related concussion (SRC) management has evolved substantially over the past 25 years. Early paradigms emphasized prolonged physical and cognitive rest; however, growing evidence has demonstrated that recovery following SRC is multidimensional and influenced by interacting neurological, vestibular, autonomic, cervical, cognitive, and psychological systems. Consequently, contemporary clinical practice has shifted toward active, multifaceted rehabilitation approaches. OBJECTIVE: We aimed to synthesize and contextualize the evidence supporting a multifaceted approach to sport-relat

Quantification of practice effects in a self-administered online cognitive pre-screening test.

BACKGROUND: With growing prevalence of mild cognitive impairment and dementia, online self-administered pre-screening tests hold the promise to more objectively identify individuals who stand to benefit from prioritized access to supervised cognitive testing and in-depth neurological evaluation, while reducing the burden of unnecessary tests for physicians and the health care system. OBJECTIVE: We aimed to quantify practice effects in same-day and mid-term test-retest applications of the XpressO cognitive pre-screening test, to develop novel methods to stratify practice effects in the absence
