BACKGROUND: Pulmonary mycetoma is a characteristic clinical-radiological lesion due to colonization of aspergillus or candida species in pre-existing pulmonary cavities following a number of diseases.
METHODS: We revisited 27 records of such admitted patients (19 M, 8 F; range age 16-27 yrs) analysing diagnostic approach and therapy. Anti-SS-A/Ro autoantibodies are found in the sera of patients with Sjogren's syndrome (SS) and SLE. In the course of analyzing 61 SS patients for their autoantibody profiles, we found that 42 were positive for anti-SS-A by double diffusion in agarose and demonstrated precipitin lines identical to that produced by a prototype anti-SS-A serum. Paraneoplastic pemphigus (PNP) is a rare autoimmune blistering disease with circulating antibodies that bind the cell surface of the epidermis and other non-stratifying epithelia, and immunoprecipitate a complex of four or five proteins (250 kDa, 230 kDa, 210 kDa, 190 kDa and occasionally 170 kDa).1,2 Combinations of immunosuppressive agents are usually required to obtain even partial control of the skin lesions.3 Mucous membrane lesions are refractory to treatment. We describe a patient with PNP whose skin and oral lesions are quiescent following treatment with oral mycophenolate mofetil.

Two amine chelators, namely N,N'-bis(2-aminoethyl)-1,3-propanediamine-4 HCl (2,3,2-tetramine) and diamsar, were used at various levels to deplete copper (Cu) from cultured Hep G2 cells. Previously, we identified a soluble salicylic acid (SA)-binding protein (SABP) in tobacco whose properties suggest that it may play a role in transmitting the SA signal during plant defense responses. Immunoprecipitation combined with electrophoresis in gelatin-polyacrylamide gels was successfully used for detection of antibodies against numerous proteinases of Trichomonas vaginalis in infected patients. Autoantibodies that interfere with neurotransmitter release by affecting the function of voltage-operated calcium channels (VOCCs) have been found in patients with Lambert-Eaton myasthenic syndrome (LES). A 56-year-old man developed mucormycotic meningitis caused by Absidia corymbifera and which followed a penetrating head injury. The cDNA coding for the yellow fever virus (YFV) envelope protein (E) was inserted into an SV40 vector under the control of the late promoter in place of the VP1 gene.
