Endoluminal sonography was performed in 31 patients with suspected perianal or perirectal abscesses or fistulas. Patients with unequivocal clinical findings underwent surgical treatment without preceding sonography. The aim of the sonographical examination was to identify the abscesses, their topographical location, and the internal opening of the fistulas. These results were compared with operative findings. In childhood perianal fistulas are frequent. The origin of the fistula is the anorectal line, especially from the Morgagni crypts. Local recurrence of abscesses are observed. Due to two observations we conclude that the fistulas caused a sepsis with E. coli. In one case meningitis and a consecutive empyema occurred, in a second case pyelonephritis. In the following we describe the patient with meningitis and subdural empyema.

An original technique of the lateral subcutaneous internal sphincterotomy was used for the treatment of 134 patients with acute and chronic anal fissures, cryptitis, papillitis, aggravation of chronic recurrent paraproctitis and structures of the anus. Recovery was noted in 79 of 80 patients with anal fissures examined repeatedly. No disorders of the obturative function of the anal constrictor were observed after the operation.

In eastern Europe, few countries have so far reported laboratory-confirmed cases of lymphogranuloma venereum (LGV). Here we describe 22 LGV cases in men who have sex with men (MSM) detected in Hungary from November 2012 to July 2016. Sequence analyses show that 16 of these 22 cases were affected by the L2c genovariant, with from 2012 to 2014, one LGV L2c case detected per year, followed by seven cases in 2015 and six up to July 2016. Two cases where the sexual history proved important in reaching the diagnosis are presented. Case 1 concerns a 37-year-old HIV positive homosexual man, who presented with symptoms of rectal pain associated with bleeding. He was unsuccessfully treated for Crohn disease.
