OBJECTIVES: Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a progressive, life-reducing group of conditions associated with an elevated risk of depression. To meet this clinical need, we developed an unguided self-help intervention targeting depression in PH based on cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and tested its acceptability, feasibility, and effectiveness.
DESIGN: A randomized controlled trial (RCT) design was utilized with a wait-list control group. Acceptability was assessed using content analysis.
METHODS: Adults self-reporting difficulties with depression were recruited from global Pulmonary Hype

PURPOSE: Studies point to low help-seeking after a failed hearing screening. This research forum article presents the research protocol for a randomized controlled trial of motivational interviewing via the Internet to promote help-seeking in people who have failed an online hearing screening.
METHOD: Adults who fail a Swedish online hearing screening, including a speech-in-noise recognition test, will be randomized to either an intervention group (participating in motivational interviewing) or an active control group (reading a book on history of hearing aids). Both of the conditions will be

INTRODUCTION: In the United Kingdom, the incidence of assault by burning and of self inflicted burns increased significantly over the last decade. This has major implications both for service providers and society as a whole. Our aim was to investigate the differences in patients' characteristics, management and outcome following a burn sustained by either an assault or self immolation.
METHODS: Acute admissions to a tertiary Burn Centre were retrospectively reviewed over an 11 year period (1994-2005). Demographic data and information regarding the circumstances surrounding the incident, burn

OBJECTIVE: Non-pharmacologic treatments (NPTs) are recommended for chronic pain. Information is limited on patient use or perceptions of NPTs. We examined the frequency and correlates of use and self-rated helpfulness of NPTs for chronic pain among patients who are prescribed long-term opioid therapy (LTOT).
METHODS: Participants (n = 517) with musculoskeletal pain who were prescribed LTOT were recruited from two integrated health systems. They rated the frequency and utility of six clinician-directed and five self-directed NPTs for chronic pain. We categorized NPT use at four levels based on

This study examines the characteristics of help-seeking minors (n = 117) who have consumed child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and who voluntarily sought support. 97% of the respondents were in Dunkelfeld at the time of data collection. About half of the respondents reported a pedohebephile sexual preference. The study found two distinct groups based on cluster analysis, primarily distinguished by their mental well-being. The results indicate that 60.7% of the participants had used CSAM in the last two weeks, with the most common content being medium severity on the COPINE scale (levels 6-9). T

Introduction: Parkinson's disease (PD) is characterized by motor and cognitive impairments that often manifest as distinct motor subtypes: Postural Instability Gait Difficulty (PIGD) and Tremor-Dominant (TD). Motor-cognitive interference, especially under dual-task (DT) walking conditions, may vary by subtype, providing insights into specific impairments. This study explored DT interference effects in PD subtypes, focusing on the potential impact of self-reported physical activity, which may help mitigate subtype-specific impairments and improve motor-cognitive function. Methods: PD patients c

OBJECTIVE: Anorexia nervosa (AN) and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) share a neuropsychological profile characterized by cognitive inflexibility as evident in set-shifting problems, and by strong detail focus. Clinically, both patient groups display a strong rigidity which may be explained by these neurocognitive difficulties. Cognitive inflexibility may hinder treatment uptake and help explain suboptimal treatment outcomes in both AN and OCD. This is the first study to compare clinical AN and OCD groups andto examine similarities and differences in cognitive flexibility. Specifically, thi

Purpose Voice-gender incongruence has predominantly been investigated in the past through the perspective of feminine-identifying individuals seeking feminine-sounding voices. The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence of self-reported voice-gender incongruence in the transgender, nonbinary, and gender-nonconforming (TNG) community and to describe health information-seeking behaviors exhibited when individuals attempt to address their voice and communication challenges. Method An online survey was designed with questions targeting the self-reported prevalence of voice-gender inc

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) can be effective in treating anxiety disorders, yet there has been no study on Internet-delivered ACT for social anxiety disorder (SAD) and panic disorder (PD), nor any study investigating whether therapist guidance is superior to unguided self-help when supplemented with a smartphone application. In the current trial, n=152 participants diagnosed with SAD and/or PD were randomized to therapist-guided or unguided treatment, or a waiting-list control group. Both treatment groups used an Internet-delivered ACT-based treatment program and a smartphone appli

Psychological problems in rheumatic diseases are common and influence the maintenance of symptoms and management. The psychological and psychosocial aspect of rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus are briefly described. An approach to psychological management and the role of the psychiatrist in rheumatology are considered. In addition to appropriate and adequate treatment of concomitant psychological disorders with drugs, psychosocial interventions and the use of other forms of therapy such as self-help groups are also invaluable.

BACKGROUND: Many nightmare sufferers do not consult a health care professional. Though behavior and cognitive therapy can help, they have not been tested as a self-treatment method at home using a manual.
METHOD: One hundred and seventy adults with primary nightmares were randomised to four weeks' self-exposure or self-relaxation at home using manuals posted to them, or to a waiting-list as a control group for four weeks. Individuals recorded nightmare frequency and intensity in four-week diaries.
RESULTS: At one- and six-month follow-up, the self-rated nightmare frequency fell more signific
