A computer-assisted instruction course for visual-field interpretation is described. A multiple-choice, question-and-answer drill was constructed using the VAX/VMS minicomputer and commercially available educational software. Medical and paramedical personnel can use this course to further their knowledge of visual-field description, the location of lesions which lead to visual-field defects, and the underlying processes that cause some of these defects. Delayed union and nonunion are frequent sequelae of high-energy tibial fractures, particularly compound ones. The authors studied 45 such cases; of these, 20 fractures were compound. The authors analysed the initial management but found no apparent correlation between the initial management of these fractures and subsequent delayed union or nonunion. This paper reviews 146 cases of acute poisoning seen and treated by us at the adult accident and emergency centre of Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Nigeria, between 1979 and 1982. Barbiturates (19%) and benzodiazepines (17%) were the commonest drugs used in acute poisoning. The highest incidence (41%) was found among persons aged 18-25 years. There were 67 males and 79 females (1:1.2). About 14% took a "cocktail" of more than one drug. A teaching model for the early diagnosis of congenital dislocation of the hip was evaluated. The physical signs of the dislocated hip and of the dislocatable hip closely simulated the true signs. The model was an excellent teaching aid and it enabled the students to gain practical experience in examining abnormal hips.
