HLA-A,B,C phenotyping was performed on 95 patients with geographic tongue to determine whether there is an increased frequency of any particular allele in this condition. An increased frequency of B15 was found in the patients when compared to normal controls. When the patients were divided into atopic and non-atopic groups there was an increased frequency of B15 and a decreased frequency of B40 in the atopic group compared to the controls. HLA (Human Leukocyte-A) antigens of 20 patients with toxoplasmic retinochoroiditis were determined by the standard microlymphocyte cytotoxicity test to see if these patients have different immunogenetic backgrounds from the normal controls. The results showed that there were no significant differences between the patients and the normal controls.

HLA groups including the characteristics of 25 antigens were determined in 108 patients suffering from psoriatic arthritis. These included 18 patients with central forms (pelvospondylitis), and 90 patients with peripheral forms (polyarthritis with or without sacroiliitis). Analysis of the results leads to the following conclusions: central psoriatic arthrisis is strongly associated with B27 and BW38, less closely with B13 and slightly with BW17. Peripheral psoriatic arthritis has the same relationship with the HLA system as has psoriasis without arthropathy.

Lymphocyte typing for HL-A B27 is useful under conditions in which data based on history and examination are suggestive but not diagnostic of a seronegative spondyloarthropathy. The presence of HL-A B27 would increase the probability of a patient's having one of these entities, but its absence does not rule out such a diagnosis. Furthermore, tissue-typing allows one to predict the probability that a patient with inflammatory bowel disease will develop AS and the likelihood that the family member of a patient with AS will develop a related disease.

The histocompatibility antigen W27 has been found to have a high incidence in ankylosing spondylitis (96%), Reiter syndrome (74%), and other forms of arthritis that may involve the axial skeleton. In patients with Reiter syndrome, there was no correlation between the presence of W27 antigen and the extent or duration of the symptoms. Sacroiliitis was predominantly found in those patients with W27 antigen in all the axial arthropathies. Tissue-typing techniques may be of value in detecting early or atypical disease.

Immediate and delayed skin reactions to antigens derived from Ascaris suum, Necator americanus, and Toxocara canis are described in three subjects and related to eosinophil counts and serum IgE levels. One, who had laboratory contact with ascarides but no known infection, gave positive immediate reactions to all three antigens. Another, following repeated experimental infection with necator, gave positive immediate reactions to all three antigens and a delayed reaction to necator alone. The third, following a single recent infection with necator, gave no immediate or delayed reaction.

It has been shown that many pigeon materials contain one or more of four pigeon proteins—pigeon γ-globulin (PGG), pigeon serum albumin (PSA), pigeon β-globulin (PBG) and a protein cross-reacting immunologically with PGG termed XPGG.
