We investigated the treatment of benign eyelid lesions with argon laser as an alternative therapy to surgical excision. The charts of 73 patients with 95 lesions treated with argon laser photocoagulation were reviewed retrospectively. In all patients, the procedure was performed for cosmetic reasons. The laser spot size ranged from 50 to 200 μm, the power varied from 300 to 700 mW, and the exposure time ranged between 0.1 and 0.2 s. BACKGROUND: Argon plasma coagulation has potential advantages in pediatric endoscopy.
METHODS: Argon plasma coagulation was applied in 13 children (age 0.05-17 years; median 3 years) with significant comorbid conditions including immunosuppression, chemotherapy, acute or chronic organ failure, and coagulopathy. Twelve had bleeding lesions; esophageal granulomatous tissue was coagulated in one. The bleeding lesion was located in the stomach in 9 of 12, the duodenum in 2 of 12 (both with granulomatous tissue), and at an enterocolonic anastomosis in 1 of 12.

BACKGROUND: Radiation-induced proctosigmoiditis is a serious complication of pelvic radiation therapy. Rectal bleeding occurs among 6% to 8% of these patients and is extremely difficult to manage. Pharmacotherapy is generally ineffective, whereas surgical treatment is associated with high morbidity and mortality. In 5 years 9 patients with a total of 16 painful ear nodules (chondrodermatitis helicis) have been treated as follows. A small excision is carried out with local anaesthesia for histological examination. In three patients treated for macular degeneration with argon laser photocoagulation choroidal neovascularization occurred four to six weeks later at the photocoagulation site. Two of the patients were treated for angioid streaks of the macular region, the third patient was treated for disciform macular degeneration. Argon laser photocoagulation also induced neovascularization experimentally in pigmented rabbits.

A 42-year-old woman was admitted to Mersin University, Department of Ophthalmology Clinic with itching and burning sensation of the right eye for 3 weeks. In her slit-lamp examination, nits and lice, attached to the upper and lower eyelashes of her right eye, were observed. Lice and nits were destroyed by argon laser phototherapy and were removed with the help of a fine forceps thereafter. PURPOSE: To evaluate the effectiveness of conjunctivoplasty using an argon green laser in symptomatic patients with conjunctivochalasis (CCh).
METHODS: Twenty-nine eyes of 18 patients with various grades of CCh were included in this study. Three patients with cyclodialysis clefts, hypotony and hypotonic retinopathy subsequent to cataract surgery were treated with argon laser photocoagulation. The hypotony was reversed in each patient and their visual acuity was normalized. Laser photocoagulation is a noninvasive treatment that can be repeated easily and safely. The complications of the treatment are minor. A hypertensive episode commonly occurs in the early postoperative period.
