Giant condyloma acuminatum (GCA) is a benign anogenital lesion caused by human papilloma virus. It is rarely found on the cervix and is difficult to differentiate from malignancy. It is associated with a propensity for invasion, recurrence, and malignant transformation. A 35-year-old woman presented with abnormal uterine bleeding and a suspicious cervical mass. After a Pap test revealed high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion, cervical biopsies revealed cervical dysplasia. A diagnostic loop electrical excision procedure identified a giant condyloma. A total hysterectomy was performed, confi

The giant condyloma acuminatum (GCA), also known as Buschke-Löwenstein tumor (BLT), is a type of human papilloma virus-associated sexually transmitted infection. Treatment options for condyloma acuminatum remain controversial, but surgery seems to be the best option. The management of GCA during pregnancy is more complicated since one has to evaluate the condition of both the mother and the fetus. In this report, we presented a GCA case in a pregnant woman with giant masses that covered the perineal and perianal region. Considering the gestational age and the fetal neurological risk from the a

Precancerous conditions of vulva are diseases which can exceed into carcinomas and are called preblastomatoses. These are all sorts of various diseases: intraepithelial vulvar neoplasias, Paget's disease, precancerous circumscript melanosis, malignant melanoma of the first Clark level, verrucous type of leukoplakia, vulvar dystrophy with atypia, giant Buschke-Lowenstein's condyloma and chronic skin damages. Vulvar dystrophy belongs to medical terminology since 1966 and includes a group of diseases known as leukoplakia and kraurosis, primary vulvar atrophy and hyperplastic vulvitis. According t

BACKGROUND: Giant condyloma acuminatum (GCA), also known as Buschke-Löwenstein tumor, is a rare tumor-like lesion associated with human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. Although it is histologically benign, it behaves in a locally aggressive manner. GCA most commonly involves the external genitalia, perianal region, perineum, and rectum. It occurs more frequently in immunocompromised individuals, particularly those with advanced or suboptimally controlled human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. Here, we report a case of perianal GCA in an HIV-infected patient and discuss the diagnostic an

The Buschke-Löwenstein tumor is characterized by an exophytic lesion on the perianal region. It is considered benign but there is a high risk of recurrence and degenerative potential. It is commonly associated with human papillomavirus (HPV) especially subtypes 6 and 11, its evolution depends on the host's immunity and the association with other sexually transmitted diseases. Surgical excision is the recommended treatment in most cases. We report the case of a 54-year-old woman with only diabetes history, who had verrucous vulvar lesion associated to HPV subtype 16 treated with large excision.

BACKGROUND: Buschke-Löwenstein tumour (BLT) or giant condyloma is a verrucous infiltrating lesion, due to a sexually transmitted virus infection, human papilloma virus subtypes 6 and 11. Poor hygiene, promiscuity, chronic irritation and cellular immunocompromised states are often implicated in its genesis. Typical treatment of giant condyloma includes imiquimod cream, podophillin resin, cryotherapy, laser surgery, tangential shave excision with electrocautery.
OBJECTIVE: The authors report their case load in the treatment of giant condyloma and the review of the modern therapies.

BACKGROUND: Buschke-Löwenstein tumor is a giant condyloma acuminata infection that is characterized by degeneration, invasion, and recurrence. It is associated with human papilloma virus infection. It develops around the genital and perineal area, sometimes causing a large budding ulcerated lesion. Although human immunodeficiency virus infection is frequent in Africa, there are few descriptions of Buschke-Löwenstein tumor diagnosis and its management. Screening for other sexually transmitted infections must be systematic among these patients.

Giant condyloma acuminatum, or Buschke-Löwenstein tumour, is a unique variant of anogenital warts. It is characterized by locally aggressive behaviour but rarely metastasizes. Many treatment strategies such as radical surgery, radiation and chemotherapy have been used to treat it but their efficacy is often poor and the recurrence rates are high. We report a case of 16-year-old girl who was treated with oral retinoid combined with intramuscular interferon-γ. All lesions cleared within three months. During a follow-up period of more than two years, no recurrence has developed. This relatively p

Giant condyloma acuminatum (GCA; Buschke-Lowenstein tumor) is a human-papillomavirus-induced cauliflower-like tumor of the genitoanal region. It is characterized by its size, capability of local infiltration and high recurrence rate. We report on a 50-year-old patient presenting with a maximum finding of GCA with deep infiltration into the adductor and perineal musculature, the scrotum, the penis and the para-rectum. After performing a temporary loop colostomy, the tumor was removed by wide radical excision following plastic reconstruction with a myocutaneous gracilis flap. During a follow-up …

The management of giant condyloma acuminatum in the male population remains challenging given the anatomic complexity of this region. Preservation of micturition and sexual function are key considerations. After primary resection, reconstructive plastic surgery is often necessary for coverage of soft-tissue defects, necessitating a multidisciplinary approach by urologic, plastic, and colorectal surgery. Because of the rarity of this disease, a defined treatment protocol has not been established. This review aims to outline key considerations and reconstructive options for this challenging dise

We report here a case of giant vulval condyloma in a two-year-old infant infected by her "baby sitter" without sexual abuse. Treated by surgical excision coupled with electrocoagulation, it was noted a rapid recurrence two weeks after treatment requiring a second electrocoagulation session. More than a year later, no lesion was noted, thus demonstrating therapeutic success. The unavailability of imiquimod in our context requires a systematic use of invasive treatment regardless of the age of the patient.

In this case study, we present an unusual case with squamous cell carcinoma originating from a giant condyloma acuminata completely surrounding the penis. A 57-year-old circumcised heterosexual male patient presented with a penile lesion existing for 20 years. Incisional biopsy revealed acanthosis of the squamous epithelium. The patient was operated on under spinal anaesthesia. The lesion was resected circumferentially with macroscopic clearance, resulting in complete degloving of the penile shaft. Neurovascular bundles were preserved. The penile skin was constructed with a split thickness ski

Buschke-Löwenstein tumour (BLT), also defined as giant condyloma acuminatum, is a rare exophytic tumour affecting the anogenital and perianal regions associated with human papillomavirus (HPV) infections, with a potential of malignant transformation and which is at a greater risk in T-cell mediated immunodeficient patients. Different therapeutic options, alone or in combination, have been reported for the treatment of BLT including local therapy but wide surgical local excision is however recommended as the most important therapeutic intervention. We report a case of a HIV-infected man who dev
