A retrospective laboratory survey on 10758 patients at the Hospital of Panguipulli showed the existence of 11 cases of diphyllobothriasis during a ten year (1979-1988) period. Age and sex as well as data of biannual prevalence of diphyllobothriasis are given. Some factors that determine the existence of diphyllobothriasis focus at lakes from Valdivia River Basin are briefly reviewed.

Four factors that could explain in great part breast milk production difficulties in Chilean mothers are analyzed according to recent studies. Maternal nutritional status, positively influences breast milk volume and duration, thus adequate weight increment during pregnancy should be encouraged. Bleeding disorders are frequent indications for reference to Hematologic Clinics. Won Willebrand's disease (vWD) is one of the commonest of inheritable hemorrhagic diathesis. In order to evaluate the frequency and clinical characteristics of vWD in the IX Region of Chile, we performed a clinical and laboratory investigation in 132 patients, children and adults, over a period of 3 years: 1983-1985. A panoramic sight of epidemiological, clinical and experimental studies, referring to Loxosceles laeta and loxoscelism, carried out in 1955-1988, in Santiago, Chile is presented. Two-hundred and sixteen cases of loxoscelism were studied. The most relevant features were: 84.3% corresponded to cutaneous loxoscelism (CL) and 15.7% to viscerocutaneous loxoscelism (VCL); 73.6% occurred in hot season; in 86.6% of cases the accident happened in the house, particularly in bedrooms, while the people were sleeping or dressing. In the Valdivia (Chile) river basin 1,295 inhabitants of 6 riverside districts were examined between March and October 1987 and showed a 1.2% of prevalence by Diphyllobothrium in the districts of Riñihue and Las Huellas. INTRODUCTION: In Chile, the number of migrants affected by tuberculosis has experienced a significant increase from 7.1% in 2014 to 29.7% in 2023, ranking as the first group at risk. Pathogenic lagoviruses (Rabbit hemorrhagic disease virus, RHDV) are widely spread across the world and are used in Australia and New Zealand to control populations of feral European rabbits. The spread of the non-pathogenic lagoviruses, e.g., rabbit calicivirus (RCV), is less well studied as the infection results in no clinical signs.
