Diagnosis of Chlamydia infection in women.

OBJECTS: Chlamydia (Chlamydia trachomatis) is a common sexually transmitted infection that places a heavy burden on women and neonatal health. To avoid severe sequelae such as female infertility, ectopic pregnancy, neonatal infection, such as ophthalmitis, and chronic pelvic pain prompt and appropriate antibiotic treatment seems the best policy in treating this group of patients. However, adequate treatment is not easy because many factors can interfere with an early and rapid identification of Chlamydia infection, including complicated mixed microflora of the vagina and cervix, a nonuser-frie

Chlamydia pneumoniae infection in preeclampsia.

OBJECTIVE: The maternal syndrome of preeclampsia results from systemic endothelial activation by a number of factors that primarily derive from the intervillous space, so-called intervillous soup. Co-precipitants, such as innate immune activators, may lower the threshold to develop the maternal syndrome in preeclampsia. We examined whether, like atherosclerosis, preeclampsia is associated with infection with Chlamydia pneumoniae (C. pneumoniae). STUDY DESIGN: A case-control study was performed on 50 women with preeclampsia, 57 women with normal pregnancies at term, and 25 non-pregnant control

A review on infection with Chlamydia trachomatis.

Infection with Chlamydia trachomatis accounts for the most common bacterial sexually transmitted infection in the UK. Men between 20 and 24 years and women between 16 and 19 years have the highest prevalence of chlamydial infection. Because the majority of women with chlamydial infection are asymptomatic, a proportion remains untreated and eventually develops pelvic inflammatory disease (PID). PID can result in ectopic pregnancy, infertility and chronic pelvic pain. Screening for chlamydial infection might reduce the incidence of complications of PID. The advent of nucleic acid amplification t

[Update of Chlamydia trachomatis infection].

Chlamydia trachomatis (CT) is the most common sexually transmitted bacterial infection worldwide. It is asymptomatic in most cases and mainly affects young women, with potential long term sequelae (pelvic inflammatory disease, tubal infertility, obstetric complications). The impact on male fertility is controversial. Screening methods as well as antibiotics use have recently been reassessed due to resistance phenomena and the negative effect on the urogenital microbiota. Positive CT serology may be indicative of tuboperitoneal pathology, which may not be noticed on hysterosalpingography. New r

[Interleukins in Chlamydia infection: An update].

Chlamydia infection remains a problem for the world. Hundreds of millions of people suffer from Chlamydia-related diseases, but the specific infection mechanism is still unclear. Studies have shown that interleukins is involved in the innate immune process after Chlamydia infection. In the early stage of infection, Chlamydia, through receptor-mediated multiple signal transduction pathways, such as mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK), signal transducers and activators of transcription 3 (STAT3), myeloid differentiation factor 88 (MyD88) pathways, promotes the body to release a variety of pr

[Chlamydia pneumoniae in otorhinolaryngological infection].

I detail clinical observation, examination, and treatment of regional otorhinolaryngological infection 3-cases of acute sinusitis and 1 of acute pharyngitis-due to Chlamydia pneumoniae, occurring between January 2002 and December 2004. Special clinical features by infection with C. pneumoniae were not recognized in the 4 cases, while ordinary clinical features by conventional bacterial infection were recognized, such as pharyngalgia and pyrexia for acute pharyngitis and purulent discharge and headache for acute sinusitis. I diagnosed an infection for C. pneumoniae for 1 case with acute sinusit

[Chlamydia pneumoniae infection in a family].

UNLABELLED: HISTORY AND SYMPTOMS: For 11 weeks a 38-year-old woman had suffered from a respiratory infection with peribronchitis, nocturnal coughing fits and earache. INVESTIGATIONS, TREATMENT AND COURSE: The Chlamydia-CFR titre was raised. Subsequent throat swabs of her husband and two daughters grew Chlamydia pneumoniae (C.p.), but not in her case; 5 days earlier she had been started on roxithromycin. 3 weeks before the patient fell ill her two daughters had a flu-like illness with cough and subfebrile temperature and her husband also had flu-like symptoms, which regressed after few days. Infection with Chlamydia pneumoniae in Brooklyn.

Of 91 children and adults with lower respiratory tract infection, 17 (18.7%) had evidence of infection with Chlamydia pneumoniae. Infection was more common in older adolescents and adults than in children. Only 3 of 8 culture-positive patients with paired sera had serologic evidence of acute infection. Two patients were culture positive over a 12-month period. Two other culture-positive patients had evidence of coinfection with other bacterial respiratory tract pathogens, which in these cases appeared to be responsible for the acute episode of pneumonia. Patterns of infection ranged from acute

Chlamydia trachomatis infection in women.

Chlamydia trachomatis is found worldwide and is probably the most common sexually transmitted disease, infecting both females and males, adults as well as children. The organism is responsible for a variety of infections in women--urethral syndrome, cervicitis, endometritis and salpingitis. C. trachomatis may colonize the lower genital tract and result in asymptomatic infection, ultimately resulting in sterility. In addition, infection of the female genital tract during pregnancy may result in spontaneous abortion, premature labor, postpartum endometritis, neonatal conjunctivitis or pneumonia.

Cytologic investigations in Chlamydia infection.

Chlamydia is an extremely common genital infection. It can cause serious disseminated disease and can infect the neonate and the sexual partner. Morphologically, Chlamydia infection was identified in routine Fast smears obtained from 160 women. Chlamydia infection manifests as intracytoplasmic coccoid and inclusion bodies in the metaplastic cells. Infected cells also reveal cytomegaly and multinucleation. Immunofluorescence studies, electron microscopy, tissue studies, histochemical techniques and tissue cultures were undertaken to establish the diagnosis of Chlamydia infection as observed in

Adverse perinatal outcomes of chlamydia infections: an ongoing challenge.

OBJECTIVES: Chlamydia trachomatis is one of the most common sexually transmitted diseases in the world, but there are limited data on its impact on perinatal outcomes. Our objective was to investigate the association between chlamydia infections and adverse perinatal outcomes. METHODS: This is a retrospective analysis of the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention natality live birth database for the years 2016-2019. The rates of adverse perinatal outcomes were compared between patients with a chlamydia infection during pregnancy and patients without such infection, using Pea…
