BACKGROUND: Palliative care addresses the complex needs of individuals with life-limiting illnesses (LLIs), encompassing physical, psychological, social and spiritual dimensions of suffering. In India, access to such care remains extremely limited, with less than 4% of those in need receiving it. Widespread availability of naloxone and other risk reduction materials can decrease fatal overdose risk and other drug use related harms, yet barriers to supply access remain. Objectives. To determine the Connect intervention's effectiveness in reducing substance use among rural and tribal adolescents in northeastern Oklahoma. Methods. This case report examines the experience of a nine-year-old male with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) who was admitted to his rural community emergency department (ED) for the treatment of aggressive behaviors, agitation, and violence.
