BACKGROUND: Children in the mixed dentition stage are susceptible to dental caries, necessitating frequent examination and preventive measures. In this study, convolutional neural networks (CNNs) were used to develop a model for detecting oral health status in mixed dentition. METHODS: Intraoral images of dentition spanning 2467 occlusal surfaces were collected from 7–9-year-old children for training and testing. The health status of all teeth, including caries, fillings, intraoral devices, pigments, and black stains, was tested. For the first permanent molar, indicator testing was conducted t

BACKGROUND: Recently, there has been an increased acceptance of the primary cleft rhinoplasty providing acceptable outcomes. Nose reconstruction, and specifically cleft nose deformity, should be addressed based on this philosophy. The purpose of this study was to evaluate surgical outcomes during the mixed dentition period after primary surgery to address unilateral cleft lip nose deformity based on the proposed technique.
METHODS: This is a retrospective cohort study. Thirty-two primary complete unilateral cleft lip patients were operated on by a single surgeon using the V-Y-Z cleft rhinopla

The primary dental care clinician is in a prime position to identify deviations from normal dental development. Disturbances can affect any new erupting tooth. The objective of this narrative review is to describe several situations in which eruption disturbances can arise during the mixed dentition. It will provide an overview of the orthodontic considerations of these disturbances in addition to key summary points on interceptive management, based on the best available evidence.

Custom-made mouthguards are widely used by athletes during training and sporting events for the prevention of oral injuries. However, even though the prevalence of dental injuries in children in the primary or mixed dentition stages is high, few reports have focused on mouthguard use for such cases due to the difficulties associated with adapting them as teeth are lost and replaced. This report presents a case of a Japanese boy in the mixed dentition stage with a custom-made mouthguard. For fabrication, self-curing acrylic resin was used to fill portions of a working model to keep space for th

Two high and two low socioeconomic areas were selected for the Tanzanian portion of this study, with all nursery schools located in those areas included, for a subtotal of 580 children. The Finnish group was comprised of a total of 575 Caucasian children examined. The Tanzanian children (83 percent Black African, 10 percent Asian, 7 percent Arab) had fewer occlusal anomalies than the Finnish children did. Finnish children had a 13-percent incidence rate of lateral cross-bite; among African children, 8 percent showed anterior crossbite; and among the combined Asian/Arab group of children, 10 pe

Our results of bone grafting to the alveolar process during the mixed dentition were investigated in 55 consecutively treated patients (66 clefts). The amount of remaining bone and gingival retraction at the tooth mesial to the cleft after 3 and 12 months was measured and correlated with the following anatomical conditions present during surgery: width of the cleft, rotation of the adjacent incisor, stage of eruption of the tooth distal to the cleft. It was also considered if any deciduous lateral incisor or canine was extracted during surgery and if any flap dehiscence took place postoperativ

A great emphasis is currently given to the early correction of malocclusions to prevent further complications if left untreated. Interceptive orthodontics not only simplifies but also eliminates the need for later procedures. The 2 × 4 appliance is an orthodontic treatment modality applied during the mixed dentition period, particularly for malpositioned permanent upper incisors. This scoping review was aimed to examine the breadth and depth of the published literature on this clinical topic, as well as knowledge gaps, about this fixed appliance during mixed dentition, for the correction of in

A 10-year-old girl had reported to Sharad Pawar Dental College. Her parents had chief complaints of lip and palate deformity. On examination, it was found that the patient had unilateral cleft lip and palate on the right side. The aim was to expand the maxilla with alveolar bone grafting in the cleft region to facilitate the eruption of permanent canine and further reduce the deformity to prepare the patient for face mask therapy, reduce morbidity in the permanent dentition, and avoid Le Fort one surgery in the future. She had been previously operated on for cleft lip repair and palatal fistul
