This paper reports 24 cases of genital organic diseases which were misdiagnosed as dysfunctional uterine bleeding during 1984-1990. These include small submucous uterine myoma 5 cases, Granulosa cell tumor of ovary 2 cases, leiomyosarcoma of uterus 1 case, ectopic pregnancy 7 cases, carcinoma of endometrium 4 cases, abortion 3 cases, choriocarcinoma 2 cases, altogether there were 9 patients with malignant tumors in the series. We assessed the frequency of stroke diagnostic errors revealed by CT in 197 patients. In five patients, CT was an emergency procedure. In the other 192 patients, CT was used to check diagnosis based on routine investigations. All but eight diagnoses (4%) were thereby confirmed. Either hemorrhage was discovered where an ischemic lesion had been suspected (2 cases) or the reverse (3 cases). Disorders other than stroke were found in three patients--subdural hematoma, hydrocephalus, and suspected tumor. Thus, few but important errors were revealed by the CT investigations.

The slipping rib syndrome is characterized by upper abdominal pain due to irritation of the intercostal nerve by incomplete dislocation of the costal cartilage of the 8th, 9th, or 10th ribs. Twenty-three new cases are reported and the literature is reviewed. Diagnosis is only clinical. The pain is precipitated by movement and certain postures; it is faithfully reproduced by pressure on one particular point of the costal margin and is relieved by local injection of an anaesthetic. Pain from a slipping rib is usually attributed to visceral causes, which is a source of diagnostic errors.
