In conventional surgically assisted rapid palatal expansion, a diastema is opened between the central incisors. A case is presented in which the surgical procedure was modified so that the split of the maxilla occurred in the region of a missing lateral incisor rather than at the midline. This facilitated restoration of the space with a prosthetic tooth almost immediately following surgery.

A retrospective study of 30 cases of mesiodens is presented. male preponderance of 1.5:1. was 64% mesiodens were impacted and 36% erupted. Inverted impacted mesiodens was seen in 62.5% of the impacted mesiodens. 66.6% cases had 2 mesiodens per case. The harmful effects on the dentition were mostly crowding, rotation, diastema and impacted permanent incisor.

Idiopathic gingival enlargement is a rare condition of undetermined etiology, although some cases have definite hereditary basis. It affects entire gingivae in the form of small to large masses. This case report describes the spontaneous correction of pathologic tooth migration and reduced infrabony pockets after nonsurgical periodontal therapy. A 3-mm diastema between the maxillary incisors was closed completely, and the mandibular teeth, which had migrated pathologically, returned to the optimal position. Clinical evaluation showed a significant reduction in probing depth, with increased clinical attachment and bone deposition demonstrated radiologically.
