Russell body duodenitis: a rare condition.

Russell bodies are accumulations of immunoglobulins within hyperstimulated plasma cells of the intestinal mucosa associated with chronic inflammation of benign progression, but may be confused with lymphoplasmacytic lymphoma, MALT lymphoma, multiple myeloma, or "signet-ring" cells, among others. There are few cases of gastric involvement, but duodenal involvement is even rarer with less than 10 published cases. Endoscopic examination with quality biopsies and anatomopathologic analysis with immunohistochemistry are essential to make an adequate differential diagnosis with other more severe pro

Pembrolizumab-Induced Duodenitis Mimicking Celiac Disease.

Pembrolizumab is a programmed cell death-1 (PD-1) inhibitor frequently used as primary immunotherapy in many cancers, including melanoma, lu … intestinal adverse reaction, with upper gastrointestinal reactions like esophagitis, gastritis, and duodenitis being rare. In this report, we present a case of pembrolizumab-induced enteropathy that endoscopically and histologically mimicked celiac disease.

Pancreaticoduodenectomy for stricturing primary eosinophilic duodenitis.

A 59-year-old woman was referred to a specialist gastroenterologist following a year of intermittent abdominal bloating and worsening reflux … ctomy was performed. Histopathological analysis of the resection sample showed primary eosinophilic duodenitis with no evidence of malignancy. Immunological testing was only positive for coeliac disease and an infectious cause was never identified. The patient's symptoms resolved following the surgery and she was discharged from surgical follow-up after 8 ye …

Equine duodenitis-proximal jejunitis: A review.

Duodenitis-proximal jejunitis (DPJ) is an inflammatory process of the proximal part of the small intestine and occurs sporadically in horses. It is clinically characterized by an acute onset of ileus and nasogastric reflux leading to systemic signs of toxemia. This review discusses the definition of the disease, potential etiologic agents, clinical findings, epidemiological features, histopathologic and clinico-pathological findings, and medical management of this condition. Salmonella spp., mycotoxins, Clostridium perfringens, and Clostridium difficile have all been associated with the diseas…

Adult-Onset Henoch-Schonlein Purpura Duodenitis.

Henoch-Schonlein purpura (HSP) is an immune-mediated vasculitis. HSP presents with purple spots on the skin (purpura), arthralgia, digestive problems, and kidney injury. HSP is most commonly seen in children, and rarely presents in adults. The pathogenesis involves the deposition of immune complexes in small to medium size blood vessels which leads to necrosis and inflammation. Most patients recover after symptomatic treatment, while more severe cases are treated with steroids. We report a 28-year-old female patient who presented with two episodes of hematemesis, worsening abdominal pain, and

[Ulcerated duodenitis revealing Henoch-Schönlein purpura].

Inflammation and duodenal ulcers can meet many etiologies. We report the case of a young adult with an ulcerated duodenitis revealing Henoch-Schönlein purpura. The abdominal symptoms preceded the emergence of the classical cutaneous signs of the disease.

Ultrastructural changes in non-specific duodenitis.

AIM: To investigate the ultrastructural and morphological changes of non-specific duodenitis (NSD) in an attempt to grade them according to the extent of the lesions. METHODS: Biopsies were taken from the mucosa of duodenal bulb of 44 patients selected from the patients undergoing upper gastrointestinal endoscopy for epigastric discomforts. From each patient, two pinch biopsies on the same area were obtained from duodenal bulb. One was for scanning electron microscopy and the other was stained with hematoxylin-eosin, Warthin-Starry silver and both were then examined under light microscope. A …

[Principles of current classification of duodenitis].

The paper considers the principles of classification of chronic duodenitis. The current classification of chronic duodenitis may be divided into three parts: endoscopic, histological, and etiological. The characterizing terms of the endoscopic part are as follows: erythema, hemorrhages, atrophy, erosions, follicles. The endoscopic localization of duodenitis is as follows: proximal and distal portions (panduodenitis, including bulbitis in the proximal portion and postbulbitis in the distal portion, palpilitis). The nonspecific terms of the histological part are as follows: activity, inflammatio…

Diffuse duodenitis associated with ulcerative colitis.

Backwash ileitis and postcolectomy pouchitis are well-recognized complications of ulcerative colitis (UC), whereas inflammation of the proximal small intestine is not. In contrast, small intestinal disease at any level is common in Crohn's disease (CD). Despite this well-established and accepted dogma, rare cases of histologically proven diffuse duodenitis (DD) associated with UC appear in the literature. In this study, we report our experience with similar cases exhibiting this unusual inflammatory phenomenon. Routine histologic sections from four cases of DD associated with well-documented U…
