PURPOSE: To describe an atypical presentation of COQ2-related retinopathy in identical twins with nephropathy, mimicking intermediate uveitis with cystoid macular oedema (CMO).
METHODS: Retrospective case report.

Electrooculography (EOG) has long been a reliable tool for detecting blinks and eye movements. However, its application in naturalistic and unrestricted settings has been little explored. We compared the accuracy of EOG-based eye tracking to a video-based tracking system during free viewing with unrestricted head and eye movements, in both normal lighting and complete darkness. The ability of human infants < or = 4 months of age to pursue objects smoothly with their eyes was assessed by presenting small target spots moving with hold-ramp-hold trajectories at ramp velocities of 4-32 deg/sec. This study was undertaken in order to learn the functional differences in reading tasks between two groups of children: those identified as learning disabled and a group of control children. During the earliest stages of learning to read, children adopt a logographic strategy, in which letter order is ignored and phonologic factors are secondary. Following minor occipital head-trauma, a six-year-old boy developed bilateral internuclear ophthalmoplegia (INO) as the only neurological sign. After having excluded all other possible aetiological causes by careful examination, including magnetic resonance imaging, the symptoms eventually were attributed to the trauma. The course of the INO was documented by electro-oculography. A saccades-training programme specially adapted to the boy's age was performed, and complete remission of the oculomotor symptoms occurred after one year.
