The effects of norfloxacin and enoxacin were examined on spontaneous motor activity in the guinea-pig isolated ileum. Micromolar concentrations of both compounds caused a biphasic response consisting of relaxation followed by transient contraction. Relaxation to norfloxacin, which was unaffected by phentolamine, propranolol and hyoscine (each at 1 microM), was partially sensitive to tetrodotoxin (1 microM). A retrospective clinical study was conducted to evaluate the efficacies of various kinds of antibiotics on 804 patients with typhoid fever. Of 16 regimens studied, ofloxacin and enoxacin achieved 100 cure rates without relapse or carriage of Salmonella typhi within 3 months. Their good safety profiles and relatively lower costs were very cost-effective for treatment of typhoid fever, and they can be recommended as the first-line choices for routine management of this disease. OBJECTIVES: To treat 212 cases of typhoid fever with Seven kinds of fluoroquinolones (FQNS) and to evaluate their clinical efficacy, bacterial susceptibility and adverse drug reaction (ADR).
METHODS: All the cases were hospitalized and uniantibiotic treated in which NFX group (n = 43) was compared with CP group (n = 28).

The bactericidal activity and mechanisms of action of the new fluoroquinolone gemifloxacin were investigated against the laboratory strains Escherichia coli KL16, Staphylococcus aureus E3T and Streptococcus pneumoniae C3LN4. The present review covers fluoroquinolone usage in chronic otitis suppurativa (COS) in case of chronic otitis media, cholesteatoma, radical mastoid cavity infection and chronic or relapsing otitis externa.
