Besides mycoplasmas and ureaplasmas chlamydias are able to cause an urethro-adnexitis in men. Jeasts, trichomonas and herpes-viruses are in our patients of less importance. Therapy with erythromycine of chlamydial urethroadnexitis is successful.

One hundred and fourteen Corynebacterium diphtheriae, toxigenic, gravis type, pharyngeal carriers were identified during a diphtheria epidemic in Elgin, Texas. All carriers were treated with erythromycin estolate, 1 g/day in divided doses for 6 days. Serial pharyngeal cultures were obtained in order to monitor the bacteriological response. Pityriasis rosea (PR) is a relatively common disease although its aetiology has not yet been identified. It occurs worldwide and there is no racial susceptibility factor. It usually affects teenagers and young adults between 10 and 35 years of age. Typical PR is much easier to diagnose than the rare atypical forms. We report a rare case of vesicular PR in a black woman who had vesicular lesions limited to her palms and soles in addition to regular typical lesions. We devised an efficient oral erythromycin treatment for this patient.

Ten healthy normal volunteers received an intravenous infusion of erythromycin lactobionate over 60 min to a total dose of 800 mg (n = 9), and 524 mg (n = 1). A case is reported in which erythromycin was used successfully to treat maternal syphilis but failed to adequately treat the fetus. This report and similar studies suggest that oral erythromycin is not a reasonable alternative drug for the treatment of lues in the penicillin-allergic gravid female.
