This case report describes the use of ultrasonography in the identification of a joint effusion to guide diagnosis and management of septic arthritis. Our patient presented with pain, swelling, and erythema of the right thumb after having punctured her thumb with a cactus thorn. Expedited partner therapy (EPT) is an evidence-based practice in which partners of patients with chlamydia are given antibiotics or a prescription for antibiotics without prior medical evaluation. Management of sex partners is a cornerstone of sexually transmitted infection control in the United States. Face-to-face investigation and notification of exposure of sex partners by public health professionals seems to be the most effective method of ensuring appropriate partner management. However, resources rarely permit such intensive partner management for gonorrhea and chlamydial infection. Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) is a potentially severe problem for military exercises and operations and may present in a variety of ways as was the case on the "Roof of Africa" Expedition 1990. Four cases are described and the pathophysiology of AMS is discussed. Gradual acclimatization to increasing altitude will decrease the incidence of AMS, but pharmacological prophylaxis is recommended when time is short, acetazolamide being the drug of choice.

INTRODUCTION: We developed standardized electronic medical record templates (EMR-temp) for use in ambulatory prenatal surgical consultations for surgical fetal anomalies (SFAs). Our aim was to evaluate EMR-temp impact in provider documentation in prenatal care of SFA.
