Five cases of traumatic intracavernous carotid aneurysm are presented. All of the patients were young men with a history of severe head injury. The clinical manifestations were massive epistaxis and an ipsilateral cavernous sinus syndrome. The diagnosis was made correctly by carotid angiography. Junctional hemorrhage, bleeding from the areas at the junction of the trunk and its appendages, is a difficult problem in trauma. These areas are not amenable to regular tourniquets as they cannot fit to give circumferential pressure around the extremity. Records of 52 polytraumatized patients with closed pelvic fractures were reviewed retrospectively to determine if spica cast application decreased mortality due to exsanguination. Twelve patients had supplemental stabilization with external fixators or internal fixation of the pelvis. Their results indicated that the spica cast is effective in decreasing or controlling bleeding since no patient died of exsanguination. We induced shock by exsanguination and administered Neo Red Cells (NRC) after 30 minutes to experimentally examine the efficacy of NRC on severe shock with respect to hemodynamics and oxygen transport capacity. We report a case of fatal pulmonary embolism (PE) following exsanguinations of lower limb in orthopedic surgery. A 30-year-old man was posted for fixation of a tibial plateau fracture on the seventh day after injury. Subarchnoid block was performed.
