INTRODUCTION: The ability to use the anterolateral thigh (ALT) flap as a vascularized fascial flap, without skin or muscle, was first documented by Koshima et al in 1989. The authors mention the possibility of using the fascia alone for dural reconstruction. Despite its description more than 20 years ago, little literature exists on the application of the ALT flap as a vascularized fascial flap. In our experience, the ALT flap can be used as a fascia-only flap for thin, pliable coverage in extremity reconstruction.

Closure of the deep fracture after open reduction and internal fixation of the ankle is often difficult due to the damage from the injury or from the intraoperative exposure. The technique described herein provides a consistent method for coverage of the hardware. BACKGROUND: The almost unknown stylopharyngeal fascia may be one of the reasons for unsuccessful therapy of the trigeminal neuralgia by a transoral block of the superior ganglion of the sympathetic trunk. We investigated the anatomy of the fascia to show the efficiency of the block for this therapy.

OBJECTIVE: To observe the clinical effect of repairing rectovaginal septum with graft of fascia flap with blood vessels.
METHODS: From August 2004 to August 2006, 12 female patients with rectocele were treated, aging 49-73 years. The disease course was from 5 to 30 years(mean, 5.6 years). All patients suffered dysporia. X-ray films showed severe rectocele (> or = 30 mm), or with the descendent perineum syndrome (> or = 40 mm), and inner pendant rectal mucosa (3 cases) and/or narrow anal canal (9 cases). A study of myringoplasty with temporal fascia homograft employing fibronectin was conducted in 14 ears in which the same myringoplasty procedure without fibronectin (1-5 times) had failed to afford closure of tympanic membrane perforation. Closure was obtained in eight ears. These results suggest that fibronectin is effective in myringoplasty using treated temporal fascia homograft.

Hypertrophy of the tensor fascia lata muscle is an uncommon clinical entity, which can simulate a soft tissue tumour. In most patients, it presents as a palpable proximal anterior thigh mass. The characteristic appearance on CT or MRI allows a confident diagnosis of muscle hypertrophy to be made, avoiding unnecessary diagnostic biopsy or surgical intervention. In cases with suspected radiculopathy, electromyography is also useful. We present an illustrative case of hypertrophy of the tensor fascia lata muscle and its outcome after rehabilitation treatment.
