BACKGROUND: The aim of this study is to describe surgical findings, treatment and outcome of spontaneous pneumothorax (SP) secondary to suspected migrating vegetal foreign body (MVFB).
METHODS: This retrospective study included dogs with computed tomography (CT) consistent with SP suspected to be secondary to MVFB that underwent thoracic surgery. They were divided into two groups according to whether CT identified (group 1) or only suspected (group 2) an MVFB.
RESULTS: Thirty-seven dogs were included (twenty-one in group 1 and 16 in group 2). An MVFB was identified during surgery in 18 of 21

INTRODUCTION: Foreign body aspiration in the adult airway is very rare. A neglected foreign body can occur when the patient is mentally challenged or is in an unconscious condition such as following trauma. The diagnosis can be delayed because there is no typical history of choking or breathing difficulty.
OBJECTIVE: To report a case of bilateral pulmonary aspiration of avulsed teeth. One tooth migrated from the main bronchus on one side to the opposite side before removal.
CASE SUMMARY: An unconscious, intubated elderly man was managed in ICU for one week before tracheostomy was performed.

BACKGROUND: Foreign body (FB) ingestion is a common event in children. The management of the ingested FB depends on the location, type, number, size of the FBs, patient age, and symptoms. Although most FBs pass spontaneously through the gastrointestinal tract without causing serious injuries, the ingestion of multiple high-powered magnetic pieces, especially neodymium magnets (NMs) increases the risks of morbidity and mortality. Supravesical hernia (SH) is rarely occurs in children, and few studies have reported SH in pediatric patients. We report an extremely rare case of ingested NMs that mi

A 2-year-old, male castrated German shepherd dog was presented to the University of Tennessee Veterinary Medical Center (UTVMC) with periorbital swelling and conjunctival mucopurulent discharge 2 days following removal of a twig from the medial canthus by the owner. Diagnostic imaging was pursued due to the suspicion of a retrobulbar foreign body (FB). A cylindrical FB approximately 3.0 cm in length and 1.0 cm in diameter with concentric rings, suspected to be wooden material, was identified on computed tomography (CT) imaging. An attempt to remove the FB via a stab incision using ultrasound g

OBJECTIVES: Migrating foreign bodies is common in cats and dogs and can be challenging to retrieve. The aim of this study is to describe a minimally invasive ultrasound-guided technique for the removal of migrating foreign bodies.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Cases were retrospectively recruited from a single referral hospital. Soft tissue swelling with suspected abscessation was identified on CT and the presence of migrating foreign material was confirmed on ultrasound. Foreign body retrieval was performed under ultrasound guidance: a large bore cannula (14G) was placed in direct contact with the

A surgical endoclip in the cystic pedicle rarely migrates to the duodenum and is considered a rare complication of laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Duodenal adenocarcinoma endoscopically mimicking a foreign body granuloma in the background of postcholecystectomy endoclip migration has never been reported before. A 53-year-old Indian male presented with progressive weakness and melena for the last three months. He underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy a year ago with an uneventful clinical course and post-operative recovery. A complete hemogram revealed hemoglobin of 4.5g/dL. Upper gastrointestin

Intrapleural foreign bodies (FB) are rare and uncommon, while diaphragmatic FB secondary to gunshot injury in a child is still rarer. We now describe a 9-year-old male with a history of self-inflicted accidental air gun injury on the right side of the midline of the sternum with transthoracic migration of FB-lead bullet-measuring 1cm x1.4cm into the diaphragm managed initially with intercostal tube drainage for right hemopneumothorax at the different center underwent thoracoscopy followed by minithoracotomy and retrieval under C-arm guidance that has not been reported in the literature.

Delayed rupture of a flexor tendon in the hand due to the presence of a retained foreign body is rare. We present the case of a late flexor pollicis longus rupture 30 years after traumatic implantation of a glass fragment. The foreign body had migrated distally a distance of 4.5 cm from the site of the original injury and eroded into the flexor tendon sheath. Thumb function was restored with a flexor digitorum superficialis tendon transfer from the ring finger with excellent results.

INTRODUCTION: Uterine carcinosarcomas are extremely rare gynecological neoplasms. The coexistence of intraabdominal foreign bodies, such as migrated IUDs, and uterine neoplasms, particularly carcinosarcomas, represents a significant clinical challenge and infrequent association. Chronic inflammation associated with foreign bodies can act as a cofactor in carcinogenesis and explain the appearance of these tumors.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 65-year-old woman with a history of cesarean section, presented to the emergency department with a 5-day complaint of abdominal pain, nausea and constipation. An

A 35-year-old man was hit against his left eye by his child's foot. Two days following trauma, the patient noticed diplopia in the upward and right gazes. On the first examination seven days after trauma, computed tomographic (CT) images revealed a small mass in the inferolateral orbit near the inferior orbital fissure. There was no radiological evidence of orbital fracture, paranasal sinusitis, or foreign body. Immediately after the first examination, the patient had a history of fever, retrobulbar pain, and nausea. These symptoms gradually worsened, and the patient visited the emergency depa

Pyogenic liver abscess is a severe condition and a therapeutic challenge. Treatment failure may be due to an unrecognized ingested foreign body that migrated from the gastrointestinal tract. There has recently been a marked increase in the number of reported cases of this condition, but initial misdiagnosis as cryptogenic liver abscess still occurs in the majority of cases. We conducted the current study to characterize this entity and provide a diagnostic strategy applicable worldwide. To this end, data were collected from our case and from a systematic review that identified 59 well-describe

Percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PNL) is the first-line treatment in large, multiple stones and lower calyceal stones. Majority of complications associated with PNL are minor and clinically insignificant. It was seen that distal piece (2 cm in size) of ureter catheter observed at pelvis was found at the parenchyma of left lung on the perioperative fluoroscopy in the patient undergoing PNL for right kidney stone. We presented this complication to stress that a foreign body can pass into circulation presumably through venous injury and can migrate to the lung.

Abdominal pain is a common presentation in emergency medicine. We describe the case of a 54-year-old female who presented to the emergency department due to worsening abdominal pain. She had a history of right upper quadrant (RUQ) abdominal pain that had been ongoing for several months. The pain had been thought by the primary care team to be related to gastritis and she had been prescribed a proton pump inhibitor (PPI). Her abdominal pain increased in the three days prior to her presentation to the emergency department (ED). The computed tomography (CT) scan of the abdomen showed a foreign bo

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Foreign body (FB) aspiration is a common preventable cause of death among children between ages 1-3 years. A rare case of an aspirated sharp metallic object in a 4-year-old boy that migrated from the left lung to the GIT after a year is presented after bronchoscopy and thoracotomy failed to retrieve it.
PRESENTATION OF CASE: A 4-year-old boy presented with cough a year after aspirating a sewing machine needle. He was stable with normal chest findings. Previous bronchoscopy attempts failed to retrieve the needle. A thoracotomy was done after a chest CT revealed the

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Although foreign bodies are a rare cause of gastrointestinal tract perforation, they may serve as a nidus for hepatic abscess. Abdominal pain is the most common presenting symptom. We present a case of an ingested pen causing duodenal perforation and hepatic abscess several months after initially presenting with a pericardial effusion.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 59-year-old female living in an intensive tertiary mental health facility was noted to have an incidental pericardial effusion during work-up for hyponatremia. Seven months later, she developed a new fever and w

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Foreign body aspiration (FBA) in adults presents diagnostic challenges, particularly in patients with communication barriers. Delayed diagnosis can lead to severe complications, including recurrent pneumonia and bronchiectasis. While bronchoscopy is the first-line treatment, surgical intervention becomes necessary when extensive inflammation precludes safe endoscopic retrieval.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 56-year-old male with a long-standing psychiatric disorder (schizophrenia) presented with an 8-month history of refractory respiratory symptoms. Chest computed tomograp
