Reconstruction of the frontal bone after trauma has to be performed in a different manner according to whether the frontofacial lesions are associated or not with neurosurgical disturbances. The lesions in the first case mainly affect all the orbital borders and the anterior walls of the frontal sinuses. Reconstruction of the frontal bone usually requires osteosynthesis to the metallic threads of the various fragments applied, but the treatment of the frontal sinus region must be modulated in relation to the possible existence of posterior wall lesions. Frontofacial lesions associated with neu…

Frontal bone trauma has an increasing incidence and prevalence due to the wide-scale use of personal mobility devices such as motorcycles, electric bicycles, and scooters. Usually, the patients are involved in high-velocity accidents and the resulting lesions could be life-threatening. Moreover, there are immediate and long-term aesthetic and functional deficits resulting from such pathology. The immediate complications range from local infections in the frontal sinus to infections propagating inside the central nervous system, or the presence of cerebrospinal fluid leaks and vision impairment…

The frontal bone fractures occur very often in service units in oral and maxillofacial surgery. Bicoronal access is the most common for the surgical treatment of frontal bone fractures. However, patients are surprised when they receive notice that such invasive access will be made. This approach allows adequate visualization of the fracture site, but may be associated with complications, which can be avoided by the use of less invasive techniques. We describe an alternative approach that aims to minimize the complications of a coronal incision.

A 13-year-old cob mare was presented with exophthalmos and periocular swelling of the left eye. The diagnostic work-up included ocular ultrasound, sonographic examination through the thinned frontal bone, radiography, standing computed tomography of the skull and exploratory osteoplastic surgery. Histopathology was consistent with an organized hematoma. An intradiploic hematoma of the frontal bone was diagnosed 5 years after head trauma, with progressive expansion and deformation of the skull resulting in exophthalmos. Exophthalmos with facial bone deformation was the only clinical finding of …

Primary Ewing's sarcoma arising from the skull is extremely rare. We report a case of an 11-year-old male child with primary Ewing's sarcoma of the frontal bone with intracranial extension. We also discuss the imaging and intraoperative findings and describe our use of a split calvarial graft in the present case.

The authors report two cases of closed reduction of the anterior wall of the frontal bone. In the first case, the fractured segment was successfully reduced with a small periosteal elevator. In the second case, a tip of the periosteal elevator was broken during maneuvering the fractured bone and lost into the sinus cavity. The sinus was opened to retrieve the broken piece and repaired by internal fixation. The technique has a few merits: (1) the procedure is simple; (2) the operation time is short; and (3) only a small incision is needed.

Osteosarcoma of the calvarium is extremely rare, specifically of the telangiectatic subtype, which has few reported cases. Herein, we report a case of telangiectatic osteosarcoma occurring in the frontal bone of a 33-year-old man without notable family or medical history. The patient presented with a painless mass in the frontal region, and computed tomography (CT) imaging and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed a tumor destructively involving the inner and outer tables of the skull. On T1- and T2-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) images, the tumor exhibited an isointense signal …

BACKGROUND: To approach isolated anterior frontal bone fracture, coronal incision is the common surgical access of choice. This approach has complications such as aesthetically undesirable scarring and alopecia along the incision line. An alternative approach to these fractures is through a supratarsal incision. The aim of the present study was to correct the frontal bone fracture, through supratarsal approach.
METHODS: Six consecutive patients with frontal bone fracture were operated through supratarsal incision and evaluated regarding: patient cosmetic satisfaction, forehead contour, scarri…

Osteolytic focusses in the frontal bone are frequently considered as complication of the frontal sinus or as metastatic process. It is necessary to mention the eosinophilic granuloma of the bone, which is not quite seldom in this area. An operation must be done in most cases to obtain the histology and, in the same way, as treatment.

The paper describes a case of osteomyelitis of the frontal bone after exeresis of the first trigeminal branch, which was postoperatively precipitated probably by chronically relapsing hordeola. General principles of skull-cap osteomyelitis are discussed, and conclusions are drawn form the case describe in the paper.
