Fusion or synodontia is a union of two or more than two developing teeth. Commonly fusion occurs between teeth of the same dentition, mixed dentition, or between normal and supernumerary teeth. Fused primary teeth present with several clinical problems like caries, periodontal problem, arch asymmetry, delayed eruption, ectopic eruption of succedaneous teeth, aesthetic, and other complications. This paper presents a rare and unusual case of triple teeth in mandibular primary dentition.

AIM: To investigate the relationship between morphology and position of double teeth, and the occurrence of other dental anomalies in the same subjects and in their siblings. SAMPLE OF CHILDREN AND METHODS: Fifty-three double teeth in a group of 50 Spanish children were included in the study. All of these children were examined clinically and had radiographs and photographs taken at the time of examination. Twenty-two of the children had a total of 30 siblings who were also examined for the presence of anomalies.
RESULTS: Of the 50 subjects, 47 had one and three subjects had two double teeth.

The present report gives prevalence values for a selected group of developmental dental anomalies in 2393 Saudi children aged 4-12 yr from Gizan region, Saudi Arabia. The anomalies selected in this study were those involving the number and shape of the dentition. The following anomalies were identified: congenitally missing teeth (2.2%), supernumerary teeth (0.50%), gemination (0.08%), and peg-shaped lateral incisors (0.37%).

On the basis of results from animal experiments, the authors emphasize a series of factors interfering considerably with tooth eruption. It is dealt with tooth eruption disorders and dental malformations due to premature loss of teeth, fused deciduous teeth, certain dystrophies, submersion of deciduous teeth, dysembryoplasias, and rickets.

Gemination or fusion is a rare occurrence in the mandibular posterior teeth. The aim of this article is to describe the problems encountered and the strategy employed in treating such cases. A 34 years old patient came with the complaint of spontaneous and radiating pain in the right mandibular posterior region. The tooth in concern was an anomalous 'double' second mandibular molar diagnosed as having necrotic pulp with chronic apical abscess of endodontic origin. The present case emphasizes the importance of identifying anatomical anomalies during treatment of fused teeth with supernumerary t…

A supernumerary tooth is an additional entity to the normal series of teeth that may occur in isolation or may be fused to a normal counterpart. Diagnosis and delineation of an accurate treatment plan in cases involving supernumerary teeth are often a challenge. This report describes a case of unilateral fusion of a supernumerary tooth to a maxillary permanent lateral incisor in which a conservative approach was used to reach a favorable outcome.

Endodontic treatment of a permanent mandibular first molar and a second molar presumably joined by cementum is presented. This case illustrates the difficulty in interpreting the vitality testing in such a situation. It also suggests possible irreversible pulp injury of a vital healthy tooth caused by extension of the inflammatory periapical pathosis of the adjacent tooth.

OBJECTIVE: This study aims to investigate the prevalence and distribution of teeth number and morphology abnormalities in Chinese pediatric patients' permanent teeth at the mixed dentition stage by performing panoramic radiographs analysis.
METHODS: A total of 4 347 panoramic radiographs of pediatric patients aged 5 years to 15 years who were admitted to the hospitals from September 2011 to September 2013 were reviewed. The presence of teeth number and morphology abnormalities were recorded as follows: congenitally absent teeth, supernumerary teeth, odontoma, microdontia, fused teeth, dilacea…

Skulls (n = 1,205) of southern sea otters were examined macroscopically according to defined criteria. The museum specimens, acquired from strandings, varied in age from juvenile to adult, with an equal sex distribution. The results from all young adult and adult specimens were pooled according to tooth type. Ninety-two percent of teeth were available for examination, with 6.5% artifactually absent, 0.6% deemed absent due to acquired tooth loss and 0.03% deemed congenitally absent. All teeth were normal in morphology, except for three pairs of fused teeth, including two instances of fused maxi…

Fused teeth may cause aesthetic, spacing, periodontal, eruption, and caries problems. The present case report describes a 7-year-old boy patient with a chief complaint of unerupted maxillary incisor. Radiographic examination indicated a fused tooth which had two fused roots but two independent root canals. A complex management of a fused tooth is really difficult to standardize. In this case an orthodontic, endodontic, and surgical treatment (intentional replantation) allowed the tooth to be retained until 18 years following intervention. Maintenance of the root and alveolar bone in young adul…

BACKGROUND: Fusion is defined as the union between dentine and/or enamel of two normally separated teeth. Gemination is the cleavage of the forming dental germ to produce two partial teeth. The distinction between the conditions is often determined by the number of teeth present. However, this can be confused if supernumerary teeth are considered.
AIM: The present case report describes the treatment of a patient who presented with dental fusion and macrodontia involving both upper central incisors. Besides the central incisors displaying characteristics of macrodonts, tooth 21 also showed asp

Orofacial manifestations of Van der Woude syndrome (VWS) include cleft lip or palate, lower lip pits, hypodontia, hypernasal voice, cleft or bifid uvula, syngnathia, narrow high arched palate, and ankyloglossia. Extraoral manifestations include limb anomalies, popliteal webs, accessory nipples, congenital heart defects, and Hirschsprung disease. We report an interesting case of VWS with characteristic orofacial features along with an unusual additional finding of fusion of primary mandibular left lateral incisor and canine in a 7-year-old boy.

The purpose of the study was to investigate primary and permanent tooth anomalies of 5-year-old children in Taranaki; 1,680 children were examined by school dental therapists, and the presence of hypodontia, hyperdontia, and double teeth recorded. Panoramic radiographs were taken of those children with anomalies of the primary teeth. Anomalies of the primary teeth were detected in 23 children (1.4 percent). Six children (3 boys and 3 girls) had hypodontia, 3 children (2 boys and 1 girl) had a supernumerary tooth, and 14 children (9 boys and 5 girls) had double teeth. Six of the affected teeth

Morphologic variations of dental hard tissue should be recognized and considered during restorative procedures. Overlooking anomalies increases the potential for clinical complications. Amalgam was used erroneously in a patient when the presence of a paramolar structure was overlooked. The clinical complications that resulted from overlooking the anomaly led to restorative, endodontic, and periodontal failures. The present report describes the use of conservative endodontics and a cast restoration, taking into account the presence of the paramolar structure, to correct the case.

Inverted mesiodens is a disorder of Odontogenesis relatively characterized by an excess number of teeth in the premaxillary region, in between the central incisors and in an inverted direction. The etiology of inverted mesiodens is still unknown. The complications associated with inverted mesiodens include eruption disturbance of adjacent teeth, displacement & rotation of the central incisors, diastema, root resorption, abnormal occlusion, cyst formation or nasal eruption of the mesiodens. Early detection and timely surgical intervention of inverted mesiodens is crucial to prevent unwanted con

The dental management of an 8-year-old girl with osteopathia striata with cranial sclerosis (OS-CS) is described. The girl presented with various oral abnormalities. The aim of this case report was to describe in detail the dental findings in a patient with OC-CS and the precautions to be taken when planning treatment. In the present case, many dental anomalies, such as delayed eruption of the permanent teeth, obliteration of the dental pulp, short roots, fused roots and taurodontism, were detected. In patients with OS-CS, routine dental care from an early stage is recommended to manage this a
